PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION

A qualified attorney, preferably with regulatory experience, to provide compliance and counseling advice and support to the Company.


PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Provides counsel concerning advisory, compliance, and other regulatory matters not involving contested litigation on a variety of topics including but not limited to property acquisition, negotiations and agreements with customers, commercial contracts, affiliate contracts, financings, marketing and communications materials, franchise agreements, inter-utility and affiliate relationships, tariff drafting and interpretation, and ethics matters. Acts as a state legislative specialist on behalf of the Company. Has strong comprehension of the electric utility business.  

    • Under minimal supervision, plans, conducts and supervises complex legal assignments, requiring an ability to evaluate matters that may have a major bearing on the Company’s business; evaluates legal and business risks and regulatory viability of strategic initiatives and advises clients accordingly

    • Interprets and applies internal policies consistent with the law

    • Manages annual and quarterly internal and external reporting obligations.

 

  • Prepares and manages budgets for all matters involving outside counsel and manage outside counsel engagement
  • Provides lead direction and/or project leadership direction to less experienced attorneys and support staff
    Projects / duties as assigned


JOB SCOPE

  • Supports more senior attorneys in the ongoing management of relationships and matters on behalf of ComEd, including with internal clients, outside counsel, external stakeholders and state regulators 
  • Demonstrates superior legal judgment in the business context
  • Demonstrates innovation; generates new ideas and devises original and successful solutions, programs and actions

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  •   An LLB or JD from an accredited law school and licensed to practice law in IL or comparable jurisdiction 
  •  At least 5-8 years of relevant professional experience
  •  Possesses and applies a comprehensive knowledge of principles, practices and procedures relevant to the operation and success of a utility regulatory practice 
  •  Requires excellent legal research, analytical abilities and an ongoing knowledge of federal or state law
  •  Must have the ability to communicate clearly – both orally and in writing; to read and analyze legal materials and other data; to work in stressful conditions under time deadlines
  • Superior writing skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  •  Experience with legislative analysis on behalf of a regulated company or industry.
  •  Knowledge of real estate law relevant to an Illinois utility.
  •  Experience with basic contractual drafting (NDAs, MOUs)
  •  Experience providing direct counsel to clients.
