PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION
The Assoc Eng Tech Specialist works under the general supervision of the Manager UAS and/or BGE UAS Program Lead and spends significant time interfacing and performing UAS missions for internal customers throughout BGE System (and EU System as needed).
This position supports the Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS/Drone) operations across BGE and will be responsible for:
- Performing drone operations for planned (programmatic) and ad hoc (emergent/testing) missions on transmission, substation, distribution, and gas systems (including emergency preparedness / system restoration activities)
-Develop respective mission plans, pre-mission preparations, perform data collection, data processing, and data reporting
- Work on integration and testing of UAS equipment/systems, and overall support of UAS projects/programs for BGE internal customers
- Serve as UAS Team’s Drone Qualified Employee (DQE), perform training, and act as subject matter expert for various UAS operations
- Coordinate UAS missions with other DQEs and external flight crews, as needed
PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
Perform UAS missions for BGE internal customers to collect data, perform analysis, interpret results, & draw conclusions (as needed) 60
Assist in the performance of complex UAS assignments. (e.g. Analyze and interpret the results of missions and perform various flights, and analyze non-specific and ambiguous results) 20
Assist with technical consultation, plan developments and recommendations for customer and company systems and processes; (e.g. Verify and validate images/data against BGE internal policies and UAS/FAA principles and practices) 10
Evaluate effectiveness of current BGE UAS systems and processes, and recommend change to leadership 5
Assure timely response to emergencies and provide 24 hour/day coverage for emergency response support using UAS

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred: This position has two distinct requirements. Meeting at least one is strongly preferred. Meeting both is strongly desired
1) At least 2- 3 years of field experience (inspections/operations) in an Electric utility with understanding of various distribution lines/components, transmission circuits/components, gas system/components, or any other applicable utility experience a. Ability to obtain within a short time and maintain FAA Remote pilot part 107 license b. Knowledge of UAS hardware, software and sensors
AND / OR
2) At least 2-3 years of experience as UAS operator with FAA UAS Part 107 Operators Certificate and maintain FAA Remote pilot part 107 a. Certified AUVSI TOP Level 2 UAV Operator is a strong plus b. Ability to learn the BGE’s gas and electric system and components to perform various mission/inspections, and identify faulty equipment
