PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION

 We’re looking for a creative, passionate, engaging and detail-focused individual to join ComEd’s corporate relations team, which manages the company’s engagement with nonprofit and other community-based organizations in northern Illinois.  The main responsibilities for the person in this role include managing ComEd’s partnerships with educational and nonprofit organizations, including the evaluation and execution of signature educational initiatives, employee engagement and giving programs, and advancing ComEd’s presence at community events. This role also entails spearheading and executing signature employee engagement opportunities and year-round events and initiatives, including the ComEd Cause of the Year, Special Olympics Chicago Polar Plunge, Impact Leader Program, National Volunteer Month, cultural parades and charitable events, and other responsibilities as assigned. 
    
 The person in this role must have the ability to think strategically and manage multiple projects and assignments while paying close attention to detail. The position also includes working with multiple teams throughout ComEd including communications, workforce development, smart grid, social media, marketing, and governmental affairs.  
    
 This role includes working extended hours for community events on nights and weekends, and may be required to assist the company for 24 x 7 coverage during storms or other energy-delivery emergencies.

 


PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Manage relationships with educational, nonprofit, and cultural community partners, including evaluation and execution of signature ComEd employee engagement events and programmatic initiatives. 
  • Plan and lead signature employee events, including National Volunteer Month, legacy events like Special Olympics Chicago Polar Plunge, ComEd Cause of the Year, cultural parades and charitable events. Responsible for budgeting, logistics, recruitment, and evaluation. 
  • Manage and grow the ComEd Scholars program by overseeing communication with participating educational institutions, student engagement, and developing mentoring and internship opportunities. 
  • Advance the ComEd-U program including fulfillment of school request visits and support educational and workforce development initiatives.
  • Handle business relationships with business public relations, supplier, and event management partners.
  • Coordinate communication and strategic planning processes with partner departments, including Smart Grid, Workforce Development, eChannels, Corporate Communications, Governmental and External Affairs, Marketing, and other departments as needed. 
  • Assist with articles, videos, and other outreach tools in partnership with ComEd’s communications, social media, and governmental affairs teams.
  • Promote employee giving programs including Matching Gifts and Dollars for Doers; advance employee giving campaign and Exelon Employee Volunteer Awards efforts, and co-manage the Impact Leaders program. 
  • Manage charitable contribution applications for educational and non-profit partners.
  • Report outcomes and deliverables related to programs and events.
  • Reply to all internal and external inquiries in a timely manner, i.e. two business days.

  • Incent employees from all business units to participate in volunteer initiatives through improved communications and recognition awards.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business/Marketing or Liberal Arts and at least 5 years related business experience.
  • Passion for ComEd’s corporate relations mission and experience managing corporate sponsorships
  • Knowledge of local governmental and media/communications landscape
  • Experience working with senior executives
  • Strong relationship-building skills    
  • Proficiency in standard software applications (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with Powering Communities, and demonstrated experience identifying and implementing technology to make processes more efficient
  • Commitment to listening to and seeking out feedback to improve the team’s programs and event
  • Intellectual curiosity, particularly in regard to ComEd’s business and the energy industry overal
  • Proactive, positive approach to attending team events, often on weekends and evenings
  • Experience seeking constructive feedback to improve programs and events
  • Continuing education/certification/training in corporate citizenship, communications, or an area relevant to the job.
  • Comfortability speaking in front of large groups 


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Business experience in corporate relations, public affairs, communications or governmental affair. 
  • Understanding of the nonprofit community in northern Illinois.
