PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES (means principal, main, major or most important duties / accountabilities that the employee performs)





Under minimal management direction, generate reports, statistical and analytical data to prepare for management review.  This may include annual budgeting process (long range planning), monthly/quarterly forecasting, cost reduction analysis and trending analysis.



Liaise with Legal vendor billing staff to support outside counsel billing tasks; analyze rate proposals, invoice resolution, monitor invoice submission in accordance with Billing Guidelines and law firm inquiries.



Prepare monthly actual versus budget variance reports; requires knowledge of the Legal Matter Management System, financial system, advanced Excel, and accounts payable systems



Prepare monthly billings to business units and analyze trends in billings to explain variances and identify discrepancies.         



General accounting responsibilities, such as preparation of miscellaneous journal entries and monthly accruals



Assist in the development of operational budget, forecasts, and trend analysis for Legal department



Legal finance projects / duties as assigned



Responsible for purchase card approval and reconciliation of expense reports






-  Completion of Associate’s degree in Business, Accounting or Information Systems and business experience involving data analysis and report writing or comparable training.

- Bachelor’s degree in business or accounting

-  Position requires a high degree of professionalism; demonstrated proficiency in oral and written communication with peers, work groups, management, vendors, and clients

-  Must have strong client service orientation and high-level customer focus

-2 or more years professional experience with a legal environment


-  Must have strong analytical skills and attention to detail; ability to understand end to end business processes

-  Must have proficient and advanced knowledge of Excel for data analysis (pivot tables, etc.); working knowledge of PowerPoint and Word and expense account systems including knowledge of general ledgers

-  Must have knowledge of matter and document management software, including knowledge of reporting systems and ability to build ad hoc reports

-Recent legal department or law firm experience

-Ability to maintain working knowledge of all software installed on the Legal desktop,




-  Ability to develop and deliver training and support


-  Ability to work long hours and to work well in an ambiguous environment; must be able to work under demanding time constraints; willingness to accept increased responsibilities and work independently; ability to meet critical deadlines and is accountable for completion of tasks





This position assists in the preparation of monthly analyses, budgeting, planning, month-end close activities. The position will also coordinate information requests with various Business Units. Must be committed to producing products of high quality.
