Exelon Nuclear is adding Instrumentation and Controls - Electronics Trainees to our team at our Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station in Oswego, NY.

Under direct supervision, inspects, tests, repairs and calibrates instrument systems including reactor and turbine plant control and protective equipment, radiation counting and detecting instrumentation and security equipment.  Tests all types of meters and gauges in the plant.  Performs corrective or routine maintenance duties including decontamination, cleaning and replacing components of circuits.  Maintains accurate records of instrument calibration and work performed.  Installs, tests and maintains all types of relays when used in connection with the most involved control systems and equipment arrangements at major stations on the bulk power system.  Tests equipment involving the bulk power system such as large circuit breakers.  Tests and maintains the complicated equipment such as supervisory, tone, telemetering and carrier equipment.   Reviews and analyzes problems to recommend improvements and modifications in organization, procedures, policies, standards, specifications, methods, processes, and equipment. To be assigned as needed to support decon, housekeeping, painting, calibration or tool room work and other duties as assigned by the Company.  Provides training and oversight to other personnel.  Performs emergency response duties as assigned.  Assists other maintenance and modifications crafts.  This position requires the completion of an I&C Technician qualification book.




  • Must have a two-year associate in electrical technology from an accredited college or an accredited degree from a Company affiliated College (Nuclear Uniform Curriculum Program).

  • Must pass a validated aptitude test.

  • Must meet requirements of NRC psychological testing regulations.

  • Must satisfactorily complete Plant Access and Radiation Safety training, including respirator qualifications and maintain unescorted access.

  • May be subject to certification and recertification with periodic reviews if required by NRC or industry standards.

  • Must be physically capable of performing the essential functions of this position.





  • Successful completion, as determined by the Company, of 100 and 200 level series training is required within two years. After six months from assuming the position, unless deemed unsuitable per Article XI,4j., incumbent will move to pay group 15. After eighteen months from assuming the position and successful completion of 100 or 200 level series training, incumbent will move to pay group 17.  If unsuccessful in attaining 100 and 200 level series training within two years from assuming the position, employee will be returned to his/her former regular position.  This action will not  result in  an  increase in  overall site headcount.    Instead,  once  the employee(s) is returned to his/her former regular position(s), the employee impacted by this action will be returned to his/her


  • former regular position and so on with each subsequent employee being returned to his/her prior regular position. This chain will be followed until the last person impacted is placed on the rehire list and laid off.

  • Due to initial training requirements associated with this position, for the purposes of performance

  • assessment, represented employees hired after April 2015, must successfully complete an additional

  • 6 month probationary period for a total of 12 months.   If he/she is not  successful, the Company has  the  sole  discretion to terminate his/her employment without regard to other provisions of the agreement (treated as a probationary employee), but he/she will be regarded as a regular employee for benefits purposes only after the first 6 months.

  • Individuals must meet the ANSI requirement prior to moving to an I&C Technician, pay group 23.

  • Any modification mandated by law or regulation enacted by a governmental agency that affects either the duties or qualifications of this position will become a part of this job specification.

  • Employees who are awarded this job will not be eligible to submit bids on any other job while in an

  • I&C Technician Trainee position.

  • This position is not eligible to be upgraded within the NMP I&C Technician series.
