PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION

The VP & Deputy General Counsel, Litigation and Environmental serves as the primary legal advisor to Exelon's senior management with respect to all legal matters enterprise-wide that are in active litigation or in a posture where litigation is substantially likely (except that litigation with Labor, Employment and Employee Benefits is the responsibility of the L&E/CCO DGC) as well as all legal environmental matters. The VP & DGC Litigation and Environmental is also the primary legal adviser to senior management with respect to all aspects of legal matters within the practice area. The VP& DGC Litigation and Environmental sets the Exelon vision and overall legal strategy for his or her area of expertise and is responsible for all legal services relating to the practice area and provides leadership for and manages attorneys and other legal professionals in that practice area. The VP & DGC Litigation and Environmental performs legal services involving high-level or complex legal matters in the practice area.


PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Overall responsibility for coordinating all legal activities of Constellation and its subsidiaries within his or her practice area
  • Provide advice and counsel to Exelon's senior leadership on all legal matters in practice area
  • Perform legal services for high-level or complex legal matters in practice area
  • Provide leadership, management and development for all lawyers and legal professionals in practice area and other relevant practice areas
  • Manage allocation of legal resources and control outside counsel
  • Develop and implement a vision and strategy for legal practice area
  • Set consistent legal positions for Exelon and its subsidiaries in all major legal matters within practice area 
  • Determine budget for and manage all legal expenditures in practice area 
  • Participate as a member of Legal Counsel to set objectives, policies and procedures, review performance and otherwise manage Exelon's legal function 


JOB SCOPE

Within the specific legal practice area, the DGC provides: (i) vision and strategy for the legal function; (ii) legal advice and counsel to Exelon's senior management; (iii) leadership of a group of legal professionals throughout Exelon and control of outside counsel; (iv) legal services on high-level or complex matters; and (v) allocation of legal resources and management of the legal budget.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • An LLB or JD from an accredited law school and be licensed to practice law in the relevant jurisdictions
  • At least 15 years of professional experience in civil litigation
  • Strong managerial and leadership skills sufficient to lead and motivate a diverse professional workforce
  • Superior legal judgment in the business context
  • Advanced oral and written presentation skills and ability to interpret and clearly convey complex information
  • Ability to address challenging legal issues, managing competing interests and provide counsel to senior management
