Primary Purpose of Position:

 

Oversee the operational analysis and support to multiple areas for transmission, distribution, and substation automatic operations for system faults, abnormal transmission, distribution, and substation and associated equipment conditions, analysis of protection system failures including providing root causes and feedback to design engineering as required.  Manage a team consisting of single point of contacts to operations, field testing group, and other engineering and field personnel for analysis of risk and prioritizing work related to operating equipment with degraded protection systems.  Support power quality and claims investigations.

Position may be required to work extended hours, including coverage during storms or other energy delivery emergencies

 

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

 

  • Lead the team and provide guidance to transmission and distribution operations, field testing group, and others on system alarm conditions, degraded protection conditions, event analysis, etc.
  • Provide recommendations for R&PE prioritization and LRP Review based on analysis of protective relay event records and provide recommendations and implements action plans to improve performance and cost effectiveness.
  • Recommend shortterm and Long-term action plans based on event history to improve system performance and operational excellence.
  • Provide direction to Operations, T&S, and Asset Management areas based on the event analysis and areas to focus efforts.
  • Manages the delivery of fault location information on an immediate basis for all 69kV and above line automatic operations (trip and reclose or lockout), all critical 34kV line operations (e.g. airport lines), and 34kV line operations where load is down on an immediate basis. 
  • Provide system event information to support power quality investigations related to customer complaints.  Provide system event information to support claims department investigations.
  • Participate in technical and industry societies and committees to enhance knowledge of new technologies or issues in areas of company interest.
  • Develop and maintain an environment that fosters a highperformance culture and a learning organization.  Serves as a change agent for business initiatives and assures the human element is understood and considered.  Assure timely recognition of employee contributions.  Develops methods to assess communication effectiveness and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Provide leadership to and development of the Design team. Provide accurate and timely feedback regarding performance and operations.  Conduct performance planning and appraisals.  Identify opportunities for growth and learning.  Facilitates open and honest communication with staff.  Assures that upward communication is integrated into the process, including employee concerns and complaints.

 

 

 

Qualifications

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS

Minimum:

Education - Bachelor's degree in Engineering with 8 - 10 years design experience

Experience  Minimum of 8 years of related industry experience, or in lieu of bachelor's degree, at least 12 years of related industry experience

Certifications/Licenses  Valid driver's license

Knowledge ' Understanding of transmission and substation components and systems

Skills 

Proven leadership ability in a high-performance culture, including coaching and facilitating business competency and performance management skills.

Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, build consensus, establish trust, and foster culture change. 

Demonstrated ability to develop and implement process enhancements and efficiencies including technology and performance. 

Demonstrated business and utility financial acumen, customer awareness, and ability to create value.

Preferred:

Education- Advanced degree

Experience- Previous experience as a T&S designer

Certifications/Licenses- Professional Engineer's (PE) License

Knowledge

Systems knowledge including work management and CAD

Understanding of utility collective bargaining agreements

Skills- none identified
