PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION
Responsible for developing and overseeing strategic communications plans and programs for ComEd. Serve as a strategic advisor to senior leadership and as a spokesperson for the organization. Ensure high quality, effective communications, including business and strategic planning and oversight of integrated communications plans for a broad portfolio of issues. Ensure alignment of work with ComEd’s strategic priorities and coordination within and across other Exelon utilities. Perform other duties as assigned by the Communications Director and VP, Corporate Communications, in support of external, and, on occasion, internal communications initiatives.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Lead the development and execution of integrated communications strategies and programs to advance company priorities and obtain positive media coverage targeting a variety of diverse audiences.
  • Serve as a company spokesperson.  Create and maintain solid relationships with local media, community partners and key stakeholders.  Support emergency response communications as needed
  • Manage a variety of communication tasks to support leadership, including talking points, short presentations, and online messages, speeches, briefing materials and remarks.
  • Support and coordinate the development of collateral materials (newsletters, presentations, videos, digital content, correspondence, fact sheets, etc.) to drive awareness of key initiatives and customer programs. Support high profile events that help boost ComEd’s reputation
  • Manage vendor/agency relationships to direct media outreach and strategy and the execution of projects including associated budgets and decision-making.


POSITION SCOPE

  • Position reports directly to Communications Director.
  • Position activities are focused primarily on external communications and support of internal clients representing a broad portfolio of issues.
  • Position supports communication initiatives and projects across all business units.
  • Involves proactive communication planning and plan execution, significant writing, editing and development of communications materials, and a high level of coordination with other communication functions within ComEd and Exelon Utilities Communications.
  • Requires strong writing, editing and project management skills.
  • High level of organizational, strategic thinking, and presentation skills required.
  • Requires occasional local travel and occasional evening and weekend work.

 

Qualifications

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • 4 year revelant degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Advertising or related field.
  • 8-10 years' experience is strategic communications, agency management and media relations.
  • Proven, excellent communications skills – both written and interpersonal.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking and project management skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously and interface easily with senior business leaders and local press.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working in government, external affairs or public affairs
  • Masters degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Advertising, or related field; 5-7 years’ experience in internal communications and publications.
  • Energy business/industry knowledge.
