Accountable for the in-field application of policies and procedure relating to applies Radiation Protection programs.  Directly manages the Radiation Protection first line Supervisors and Radiation Protection Technician activities in their daily support of plant Operations and maintenance activities. Responsible for on-line ALARA planning and individuals performing the planning duties.



PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES (means principal, main, major or most important duties / accountabilities that the employee performs)

  1. Assist the Radiation Protection Program Manager in developing, reviewing an implementing department procedures and policies, and assuring that these documents meet all federal and company regulations.
  2. Participate in Business Planning, Budget, and Business Performance review regarding RP and the site.  Fulfill managerial responsibilities regarding assigned staff (e.g. Employment, Development, Compensation, Performance Evaluation, etc.).  Ensure consistent and effective work force practices through assigned supervisors/functions.
  3. Attend Peer meeting to assure that industry best practices and standards are being implemented effectively and uniformly across all sites.
  4. Accountable for ensuring that department activities, priorities and resources ae being managed effectively to meet the needs of Operations and Maintenance.  This includes planning and budgeting refuel outage support for the department.
  5. Accountable for the performance improvement of the RP FLS, RP Technicians, and on-line ALARA specialist through mentoring, monitoring and coaching.
  6. Fill in for Radiation Protection Senior Manager at meetings and responsible for department when RPM is off-site.




  • Must have a bachelor’s degree in Heath Physics or equivalent
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in radiation protection at a nuclear reactor facility (ANSI 18.1)
  • Successful completion of core supervisory/management training and development programs.
  • Must be technically knowledgeable of plant operations and systems
  • Must have demonstrated written and oral communicative skills


  • Previous RP Supervisory experience – 2 years minimum



Must be able to independently perform program reviews, procedure writing, and data analysis.
Must be able to use interactive skills to engage the peers and the site RP department.
Will be able implement interpersonal knowledge and skills to oversee any program area assigned including dosimetry, instrumentation, respiratory protection or other program as assigned.
Must be able to perform continual training to improve station and department knowledge and learning.
Must have critical self and field reviews and actively coach to improve site performance.
