PRIMARY PURPOSE OF JOB

Manages and directs the personnel and activities within the Transmission System Operation Dept, including short-term transmission planning and real time transmission control room support. Demonstrated knowledge of short-term transmission planning and real time transmission control room operations, including approval of transmission outage Clearance Requests and development of Clearance Orders for Transmission system facilities. Assure the development and effective implementation of strategic initiatives. Assure the focus and attainment of business goals and objectives. Maintain an environment that promotes diversity, equity, inclusion and high productivity. Note: Position may be required to work extended hours, including 24 x 7 coverage in support of storms or other energy delivery emergencies.


MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Establish and monitor short and long term business objectives designed to assure the highest level of safety, productivity, accountability and customer service and achieve Energy Delivery’s safety and reliability goals. Monitor business plans and division objectives. Balance cost control with appropriate capital and maintenance investment.
  • Manage the technical support, short-term transmission planning promoting commonality and process improvement.
  • Develop and maintain an environment that fosters accountability, high performance and a learning organization. Part of the management team in promoting safety and diversity. Serves as a change agent for business initiatives and assures the human element is understood and considered. Assure timely recognition of employee contributions.
  • Provide leadership to and development of the team. Provide accurate and timely feedback regarding performance utilizing the Individual Performance Review process. Identify opportunities for growth and learning.
  • Interface with other departments in Exelon and represent Transmission System Operations to Distribution System Operations, T&S, Exelon Nuclear, Exelon Power, independent power producers PJM and other transmission system customers, operators and owners. via participation in various PJM working Groups, advocate positive outcomes for Exelon relative to PJM operating policy.


JOB SCOPE

Operations Support performs the following functions:

  • Provide technical and operational support of the real time operation of the bulk power transmission system.
  • Conduct short term transmission system planning and analysis.
  • Perform technical studies and analysis to support reliable operation
  • Perform event investigation and recommend improvement opportunities.
  • Investigate and provide recommendations for new Operations tools and programs.

Actions have significant impact on public and employee safety, reliability and customer satisfaction goals.

Regular contact with TSO control room personnel and senior management, managers, employees of Exelon Utilities and of other business units (e.g., Distribution System Operations, Exelon Nuclear, Exelon Generation, BSC Legal, Government and Environmental Affairs), independent power producers, transmission system customers, PJM, and other transmission and generation companies’ representatives.

As a member of the PJM taskforces and working groups, advocate positive outcomes for Exelon relative to PJM operating policy.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field and a minimum of 8 - 10 years of experience in transmission/substation engineering, transmission planning, transmission operations, transmission/substation project management or related area.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of short-term transmission planning and real time transmission control room operations
  • Proven leadership ability in a high performance culture
  • Demonstrated ability to build consensus, establish trust, communicate effectively and foster culture change
  • Demonstrated business acumen, customer awareness and ability to create value
  • Demonstrated ability to represent the company and negotiate with other departments throughout Exelon, PJM, Generation Operators, Transmission Operators and transmission customers.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence, direct, and negotiate.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of FERC, NERC, PJM, regulatory and related legal issues
  • PJM or NERC Certification
