PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

- Audits the day-to-day activities of 10-14 utility locating contractors to meet legal requirements, safety regulations, schedules, marking standards and technical specifications.

- Is knowledgeable of utility locating contracts, safety and construction work practices and Miss Utility law.

- Ensures that legal requirements and the terms and conditions of the contract and technical specifications are met.

- Makes decisions to ensure compliance.

- Monitors locating contractor performance and recommends corrective actions.

- Maintains regular contact with locating contract supervision regarding contractor performance.

- Trains locating contractor on BGE maps and records and equipment recognition.

- Reconciles problems with excavators.

- Reviews “ critical facility” areas and advises excavators concerning the protective measures which must be taken during excavation, boring, and blasting to prevent accidental damage to BGE gas, electric, and fiber facilities.

- Assures proper action is taken to provide protection to exposed BGE facilities.

- Contacts excavators and representatives of public agencies to conduct damage prevention education training, outline protective measures, and investigate damages.

- Makes connections in live padmounted equipment to locate facilities which cannot be found by using conventional methods.

- Appears occasionally as a company witness in court cases involving disputed damage claims.

- Sometimes performs locator duties.

- Investigates and makes recommendations on tools and materials for locating and damage prevention.

- Is required to work during emergencies.

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS

Minimum:

- Knowledge of equipment, standards, regulations, and safety requirements associated with facility locating.

- Knowledge of safety and construction work practices, including a working knowledge of electric, gas and fiber operations, and the ability to maintain authorization to connect equipment in live pad-mount equipment.

- Knowledgeable in the use of PC.

- Demonstrated ability to interpret fiber optic prints, construction drawings, gas/electric maps and records.

- Demonstrated ability to effectively plan, schedule, manage, and coordinate own daily work activities.

- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

- The ability to anticipate and resolve problems promptly and effectively.

- Valid drivers license and ability to meet Company driving standards.

- Must pass the U. S. Department of Transportation required chemical test.

- DOT Requirements: Requires pre-assignment drug test.

- Four or more years of gas or electric distribution construction experience or the equivalent combination of formal education/training and experience.
