PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION
ComEd


Provides leadership, direction and professional development to a team of engineers and technical support personnel in the planning and execution of a variety of engineering activities including the upkeep of distribution Construction Standards and Engineering Practices that are associated with the planning, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of ComEd’s distribution system.


Works closely with other departments including Construction, Engineering, Methods, Supply, and Safety to develop or revise Construction Standards.


Functionally focused balancing a mix of day-to-day operations and strategic planning.


Makes decisions on key business activities, which have a direct impact on the ComEd operations, indirect impact on other departments and/or the Company.


Develops and maintains an environment that promotes diversity and high productivity.


Develops studies, plans, criteria, specifications, calculations, evaluations, design documents, performance assessments, cost estimates, budgets, associated with the planning, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of Exelon’s distribution system. Provides analytical support for consultation and recommendations to the Company within and to other business units and/or customers as a result of studying company or customer-owned systems, processes, equipment, or facilities.


Assists in the development of strategies to improve reliability. Assists in the implementation of strategic initiatives. Assures the focus and attainment of company business goals and objectives.





PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
ComEd

  • Makes decisions on key business activities, which have a direct impact on the ComEd operations, indirect impact on other departments and/or the Company.
  • Development and upkeep of distribution Construction Standards.
  • Development and upkeep of distribution and Engineering Practices.
  • Participate on national standards making bodies and research activities Assist in the development and implementation of short and long term strategic initiatives designed to assure the highest levels of customer services and to achieve ComEd’s reliability performance goals.
  • Develops and maintains an environment that fosters a high performance culture and a learning organization.
  • Assures timely recognition of employee contributions
  • Facilitates open and honest communication with staff.
  • Conducts performance planning and appraisals. Provides accurate and timely feedback regarding performance.
  • Identifies opportunities for growth and learning.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of strategic initiatives.
  • Assures the focus and attainment of company business goals and objectives.
  • Acts as a delegate for the Manager of Distribution Standards and Technical Support.

 


POSITION SCOPE
ComEd


Responsible for the upkeep of distribution Construction Standards and Engineering Practices that are associated with the planning, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of ComEd’s distribution system. Responsible for providing technical support for distribution construction standards and regulatory codes, to internal customers ranging from front line overhead electrician to vice president. Influence distribution system industry standards through department support and participation on national standards making bodies and research activities.


Manage and direct approximately 9 employees. Manage departmental budget.

 

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field
  • At least 8 years of industry experience.
  • Broad knowledge of company, department policies, objectives, strategies, and goals; function being managed; applicable governmental laws and regulations.
  • Good oral and written communication skills, ability to build consensus, establish trust, communicate effectively, drive execution and ability to multi-task.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of regulatory issues.
  • Demonstrated business acumen, customer awareness and ability to create value.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Graduate degree or Graduate Level work in Engineering, Business Administration or related field.
  • Project Management Professional
  • Professional Engineer License
  • 3 years as a supervisor or manager
