To protect the Company’s assets and self-insured retention ($10M) by managing an area(s) of expertise within the Claims Department; non-litigated liability claims, litigated liability claims or collection of damage to company property. Direct the investigation of large losses/serious injury cases. Establish appropriate reserves on cases in accordance with established practices and procedures. Analyze liability and evaluate financial risk to the Company on high complexity injury and large property damage losses. Prepare written reports and case analysis as required. Support the loss prevention process.

Note: Position may be required to work extended hours, including 24x7 coverage for storms or other energy delivery emergencies.

  • Direct and supervise the activities of the Claims unit assigned. Develop defense and collection strategies in litigated and non-litigated matters. Work with Case Managers to develop initiatives to reduce corporate exposure to liabilities. Manage training and development of claims staff. Direct the field investigation of high profile liability, personal injury, auto accidents, property damage, collection and environmental claims; direct the response to and coordinate investigations of major incidents/accidents (gas explosions, fires, electrocutions) on a 24 hour basis. Evaluate damages, determine liability, analyze losses and ensure appropriate reserves. Manage the work product and document performance of Claims Case Managers. Initiate innovative Best Practices to reduce O & M costs and improve client satisfaction. Temporarily fill in for the Manager of Claims on an as needed basis.
  • Prepare written investigation reports, letters and other documents as necessary. Ensure Sox compliance via proper Reserve Accounting on Claim exposures.
  • Provide educational services to internal and external constituencies.

  • Reserve and settlement authority of up to $250,000.
  • Direct the activities and monitor performance of up to ten Claims associates
  • Accountability for adequate reserves of claims up to Exelon’s $10M SIR
  • Assist/ manage the company’s collection of damage incurred to company property by negligent third parties./LI>
  • Reduce company’s exposure via claim and safety awareness training to internal and external clients.


  • Bachelor's degree and minimum of 8-10 years of relevant investigative, claims or insurance experience, OR in lieu of a Bachelor's degree, minimum 12-14 years business experience, at least 10 of which must be relevant investigative, claims or insurance experience. Minimum 3 –-5 years prior supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of Legal Process, Statutes and Case Law.
  • Information Technology skills and knowledge of appropriate systems used by Claims Department.
  • Self-motivated and ability to handle heavy case load under pressure

  • 10+ years relevant claims experience
  • Master's degree
