Provide overall leadership direction and guidance for the quality department, collaborate with managers of functional areas with interfaces to Quality (i.e. Engineering, Project Management, Technical Services, Supply, Electric and Gas Operations, external vendors) and report quality performance to leadership.

The Quality team will validate that constructed electric and gas facilities follow applicable engineering designs and standards and provide governance & oversight to the remediation of identified work and equipment found to be out of compliance.

Position may be required to work extended hours, including 24 x 7 coverage during storms or other energy delivery emergencies.

  • Oversee all internal and external quality processes to ensure compliance to utility and regulatory requirements. Ensure changes to processes are communicated, documented, and implemented throughout using an established methodology.
  • Maintain awareness of external factors that could potentially impact all quality programs.
  • Partner with key stakeholders (i.e. Engineering, Project Management, Technical Services, Supply, Electric and Gas Operations, Supply and Vendors)) to ensure trends in poor quality are communicated/ addressed in engineering designs, standards, operational improvements, and updated training materials.
  • Analyze quality data and suggest actions to support strategic needs and initiatives.
  • Maintain oversight of the Evaluation/Auditing of Vendor Quality Programs
  • Develop, implement, manage and report out on key performance indicators (KPIs) for each area of responsibility.
  • Manage, coach, and develop a high performing quality department. Track and communicate performance at team and individual levels using a quality monitoring data management system.
  • Ensure changes to processes are communicated, documented, and implemented throughout using an established methodology.
  • Provide governance & oversight to the remediation of identified areas of non-compliance between installed electric & gas equipment, standards and engineering designs.
  • Meet all financial objectives by estimating expectations; preparing an annual department budget; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions.

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, finance, accounting or other appropriate discipline relevant to the utility business; with a minimum of 8-10 years of utility or quality control experience, or in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree, a minimum of 12 years of relevant utility quality control experience.
  • Advanced communication skills, both written and oral, with all levels of management and staff.
  • Strong Analytical skills with demonstrated strong leadership and accountability behaviors.
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent objectives and projects in parallel while maintaining proper focus on safety and productivity.
  • Ability to work under pressure and communicate company mission and vision with excellent problem solving, decision-making and planning skills

  • Experience in multiple utility disciplines: Electric Overhead and Underground distribution, substations, transmission, or gas.
  • 4+ years of successful experience managing both line (field) employees and management to include direct employee performance appraisal duties.
  • MBA or related advanced degree.
  • ISO 9000/2015 and/or Lead Auditor certification from an accredited organization.
  • Quality Assurance or Quality Control experience in a utility or industrial area.
