Primary Duties and Responsibilities:  (*essential job functions)

Responsible for providing daily mechanical equipment and incidental work to support the gas underground construction and maintenance crews.  Operates mechanical equipment such as earth-boring machines, bulldozers, backhoes, and cranes.  Excavates for equipment enclosures and other similar work; operates loaders & backhoe’s, milling machine, specialized yard equipment or other similar construction equipment with attachments for excavating, refilling or other earth moving operations.  Operates equipment in and around congested areas, assures job progress, safety of public and co-workers as well as preventing damage to Company, public and private property.  Reads and interprets prints, sketches and job orders.  Sets up equipment and cranes in compliance with OSHA, MOSHA, DOT and Company regulations.  Inspects, cleans, adjusts, lubricates and makes minor field adjustments and repairs on the vehicles and equipment operated.  Delivers critical tools and material to the job site, as needed.  Assists other maintenance and construction crafts, as needed.  Inventories tools and expendable items assigned to each crew.  Performs general housekeeping of yard, platform and tool room.  Periodically audits material credit area for conformance with procedures.  Coordinates with other departments the testing, repair of equipment and portable instruments.  Is required to work during gas outages and emergencies.  May perform other duties as assigned including storm and emergency work.

Qualifications

Skills/Abilities:

Must possess a valid Level 1 authorization or appropriate Commercial Driver's License and ability to meet Company driving standards.

 

Physical ability to perform job duties (i.e. lift heavy tools and equipment, climb and lift heavy equipment into large trucks).
 

Successful completion of the Construction and Skilled Trades Battery test (CAST).

 

Demonstrated ability to write, speak, read, comprehend and communicate clearly and accurately in the English language.

 

Must be willing and able to work overtime on a regular basis and must be available for callout overtime, if and when required, consistent with the Labor Agreement.

 

Education/Experience:

Two (2) years of experience in the operation of heavy construction equipment and trucks and in the performance of preventative maintenance.
