PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION
The Market Analyst will work with all areas of the organization to support, analyze, understand, explain and develop insightful forecast of key trends in the energy markets with an emphasis on natural gas, oil and coal. The role includes a focus on one or more U.S. regional markets along with a focus on a Supply and Demand sector(s). The objective of the role is to prepare Exelon to compete in a rapidly changing business environment.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
Identify and understand market drivers and ensuring these are incorporated into short-term and long-term forecasts and the impact on assigned areas
Aligning research and analysis with the needs of Constellation's primary stakeholders
Incorporate advanced analytical methods and modeling techniques into deliverables
Run, develop, evaluate and communicate the inputs, assumptions and results of models for short-term market trends in natural gas, oil and coal
Have a view on various market conditions for assigned areas and coordinate the views with key stakeholders
Communicating views of emerging market dynamics to key stakeholders throughout Constellation
Lead discussions about your findings in a concise, lucid fashion to various stakeholders including senior management
Establish and maintain working relationships with internal and external contacts which will support the development of data and knowledge of industry best practices
Produce reports focusing on short-term natural gas and fuels fundamentals and forward views
Initiate process improvement recommendations while contributing to standardization, repeatability and automation of processes to ensure on-going timely delivery of high-quality results.
Be a subject matter expert on specific regional market conditions as well as macro trends in the industry (e.g. supply, industrial demand, etc.) to support various commercial activities (both strategic and tactical)
Respond to ad-hoc analytical requests in a timely manner
JOB SCOPE
The analytics work performed and reported on will impact short- and long-term decisions made throughout the organization. There is a high level of decision making on the analytics performed. There is no direct managerial role but the candidate will be responsible for mentoring junior team members, working closely with more senior members of the organization and collaborating with the trade floor and corporate. Reports to Senior Manager, Market Analytics and Short-Term Fundamentals.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Undergraduate degree in business, engineering, economics, the sciences, or other research discipline
3+ years of professional experience in energy markets/ analysis, economic modeling or similar disciplines
Self-motivated and able to work individually with little supervision and as part of a larger group
Strong research and project management skills and experience
Comfort working with abstract concepts with limited guidance
Excellent mathematical and analytical skills
Strong Excel, VBA and SQL skills
Effective problem identification and problem-solving capabilities
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Motivated to achieve results in a collaborative and rapidly evolving market
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Graduate Degree
Experience in the natural gas business
Programming skills, such as Python, Matlab, SQL
At least three years of experience evaluating the impacts of markets, including exposure to economic modeling.
Trading experience a plus
