SPECIAL POSTING NOTES:

This role is in the BGE Innovation group. The position will be spearheading the BGE innovation program along with the Manager of Emergent Technology and Innovation. The successful candidate shall champion innovation by demonstrating agility, strategic thinking, and most importantly seeking opportunities to challenge the status quo. The candidate needs to be empathetic, help others with their innovative ideas, and help put their theory into action. The candidate should be able to solve problems, manage changing priorities, and thrive in the midst of ambiguity.

Primary responsibilities include but not limited to:
1) Managing day-to-day BGE innovation program along with a project coordinator and a team of Innovation Leads and Ambassadors
2) Work closely with different ideators in bringing their ideas to life or supporting them through the innovation thinking process
3) Work on various Exelon and Corporate innovation projects and monthly/quarterly reporting
4) Serve as a thought partner by using innovation methodologies to advance different internal departmental needs
5) Empowering innovation teams with the toolsets, skill sets, and mindsets needed to leverage technology to promote collaboration, critical thinking, creativity, communication, and learning
6) Plan the yearly Exelon Innovation Expo for the BGE portion
7) Host various innovation events at BGE such as competitions, training, and year-end celebrations
8) Work closely with various strategic initiatives and groups such as Utility of the Future, Smart Grid, Fleet Electrification, EVs, remote technologies (example: HoloLens), Drones, etc.

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION:

- The primary purpose of this position is to support the identification and evaluation of innovative ideas at BGE consistent with the Company’s Utility of the Future and Innovation strategic plan. Work closely with team responsible for developing the Utility of the Future strategic plan and Smart Grid & Innovation department to support technologies, products and services that are needed to help realize the goals of the plan and to assess those technologies to determine feasibility, availability, economics, market potential and customer receptivity.
 
- Primary responsibility is to support the identification and investigation of new innovation including technologies that enable the internal departments to transcend to new form of operations. Assist in analysis and report preparation to develop business cases for these innovative ideas. Assist with conducting modeling, forecasting, trending, variance analysis, and other general financial and operational analysis to be included within business cases.
 
- Additional responsibilities are to plan and manage resources, finances, scope and services within a functional area of Innovation to deliver business results. Provide technology products, services and solutions on time, within budget and with the required functionality. Establish, maintain and enhance relationships with internal BGE clients, EU, Exelon and external vendors. Participate in developing and implementing strategy/policy. Integrate innovation and innovation driven processes within the utility operating environment. 
 
- Works closely with operational units of the business to test, deploy and track the performance of innovation ideas/technologies identified as critical to realizing the aims of the Utility of the Future strategic plan and to ensure strategic coordination and alignment with Smart Grid and distribution technologies, and other emergent technologies. Develop, organize and present performance reports for both internal and external use. The position will work collaboratively with other departments (Finance, Regulatory Strategy, Grid Operations, Customer Operations, HR and Communications) across the enterprise, including EU and Exelon, to ensure strategic coordination and alignment.

- Position may be required to work extended hours, including 24 x 7 coverage during storms or other energy delivery emergencies.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES: 

- Identify and evaluate specific technologies required to support the BGE’s innovation strategy and development. Develop specific technologies and industry trends. Collaborate with various BGE divisions and other key stakeholders in EU and Exelon focused on technology evaluation to ensure strategic coordination and alignment with Smart Grid and distribution technologies, and other emergent technologies

- Perform high-level analysis and prepare comprehensive reports to develop business cases for these technologies/innovative ideas. 

- Develop and implement short- and long-term strategic technology initiatives designed to test the technical and economic feasibility and market (internal/external) appeal of emerging technologies – both physical and information/data-based. 

- Works closely with operational units of the business to test, deploy and track the performance of innovation ideas identified as critical to realizing the aims of the Utility of the Future strategic plan and to ensure strategic coordination and alignment.

Manage Technology Innovation projects and associated system integrators to deliver projects of medium to high complexity. 

- Maintain current business knowledge/acumen, including application of technology solutions to deliver business results. Maintain engagement with business units

Qualifications

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS:

Minimum:
- Bachelor’s degree in related discipline (business administration, engineering, finance, etc) with at least 5 years industry related experience.
- Customer focus driven with strong interpersonal skills and solid written and oral skills
- Ability to translate project initiatives to core team members and business units
- Demonstrated adaptability to apply strategic and critical thinking to problem solving
- Ability to work productively with diverse teams
- Strong knowledge of business practices and processes in technology and innovation.  
 - Self-starter who can identify opportunities based on other industries and analogous businesses.  Creative thinker, intellectually curious, and interested in emerging technologies
- Strong organization and project management skills to manage cross-functional projects with demonstrated ability to multi-task and set priorities within tight timelines and high expectations.  Ability to work effectively across organizational levels and with external partners.
- Expert analytical skills for project evaluation including analysis of complex projects with economic, financial, risk and decision analysis.  Proficient in business case development and ability to effectively present business cases to business unit leadership.
- Ability to analyze organizational data and complex problems, interpret and recommend alternative courses of action, and implement intervention strategies to attain performance targets.  

Preferred:
- Graduate degree in Technology, MBA or related discipline.
- Familiarity with technology, innovation and start-up culture
