PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION 

This position involves planning, coordinating and developing stakeholder outreach strategies on company-wide initiatives. Position involves developing and managing strategies that: (1) build goodwill, inform, educate, influence and external stakeholders’ views and perspectives on Exelon initiatives including infrastructure and customer service improvements and (2) help maintain and enhance personal contact and relationships between Pepco External Affairs Managers and Large Customer Solutions representatives and external stakeholders; (3) inform, educate, and influence residents, community groups and opinion leaders in municipalities on Exelon initiatives; (4) interface and coordinate with other organizations within Exelon to develop and socialize External Stakeholder strategies, incorporate their input, solve problems, and efficiently allocate cross-functional resources and (5) track and obtain feedback from External Stakeholder outreach. External Stakeholders include, but are not limited to:  city officials, municipal officials, county officials, large customers, and residents, opinion leaders and groups (community, business, economic development) within Exelon’s service territory.


This position also involves serving as a point of contact for initiatives with the external stakeholders, including municipal officials, Councils of Government, community groups and a conduit of information and feedback from the external stakeholders and regulatory stakeholders to the Company.


Position may be required to work extended hours, including 24 x 7 coverage during storms or other energy delivery emergencies.


PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Develop and manage Stakeholder outreach strategy related to key initiatives. Build alliances with community groups, municipalities and external stakeholders to further critical initiatives. Develop a strong understanding of Pepco's overall visions, goals and initiatives.
  • Manage strategic projects and serve as a primary resource to other areas of the company by: (1) coordinating and strategizing on policy and presentation of the company’s position, (2) by participating in briefings with Stakeholders and (3) coordinating and aligning with other business units for the purposes of monitoring business activates in order to anticipate and develop outreach strategies.
  • Attend Key stakeholder meetings and report relevant information to the areas of the company affected by the discussion. Monitor all relevant filings and other documents.
  • Tracking and obtaining feedback from External Stakeholder outreach.
  • Perform and participate in analyses of stakeholder related issues affecting the company
  • Monitor outage pager once every five weeks, 24-hours a day, to ensure accurate and timely communications with governmental bodies and certain senior management.

POSITION SCOPE

Responsible for planning and development of Stakeholder outreach related to key initiatives such as AMI, Smart Grid, Reliability, rate cases, transmission projects and major proceeding and build alliances with community groups, municipalities and external stakeholders to further critical initiatives. Develop a strong understanding of our stakeholders and Exelon’s overall goals, visions and initiatives. Manage plan and coordinate strategy for external stakeholder workshops and Collaborative efforts. Manage development and compilation of data and materials for Stakeholder presentations. Requires working with business units on all communications with key stakeholders. Work involves the understanding of key regulatory policies, positions, and strategies. Work involves knowledge of Exelon positions and the ability to provide advice and guidance to business units on all key issues. Work involves quick assimilation of new and complex concepts and the ability to communicate these ideas at a high level.


Must work independently and be sensitive to issues of importance to the Company, the key stakeholders and the electric industry.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • BS or BA degree required.
  • 10+ years relevant experience with a minimum of five years working for a utility or in a regulated environment closely aligned with the utility business.
  • Highly effective interpersonal skills and the ability to easily work with people both inside and outside of the company.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to provide direction, advice, and guidance on all regulatory matters pertinent to other areas of the company.
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of the electric utility industry and current issues relevant to it.
  • Extensive knowledge of the company, and an understanding of corporate and regulatory strategy.
  • Broad understanding of Company strategy and business practices, the workings of the wholesale and retail electricity markets as well as the federal and Illinois regulatory policies. Must possess knowledge of the Illinois Public Utilities Act and the Illinois Administrative Code applicable to electric utilities.
  • Strong leadership skills to provide functional direction, guidance, and support to peers.
  • Strong working knowledge of PC word processing and spreadsheet applications.
  • Requires overnight travel to Springfield, IL about once a month.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Advanced degree in Business, Economics or financial disciplines
