This position will be expected to utilize established technical expertise of operations of the plants, gate stations, and shift work related to Gas Plant Operations. This necessitates true working knowledge of all applicable federal & state regulations (DOT, DEP, State, DHS) and the need for frequent interfaces with regulatory agencies.

Overall responsibility and management for the operation of gas plant operations including the LNG Plant and Propane/Air plant and all natural gas gate station maintenance & emergent activities, all maintenance and emergent activities at the peak shaving facilities. Manages the development of plans, budgets and strategies to ensure optimum performance and overall integrity of the facilities and systems within scope of responsibility.

Note: Position may be required to work extended hours, including 24x7 coverage during storms or other energy delivery emergencies and managing a 24X7 operators. 

  • Overall responsibility for, and management of, the operations of all natural gas metering stations and all peaking facilities (LNG & Propane/Air) in compliance with all applicable Federal and State regulations
  • Manage the operational schedules and all emergent and planned maintenance activities related to the Gate stations and peak shaving facilities and required training
  • Manage the development of the plans, budgets and strategies to meet the needs of the business in these areas.
  • Review and respond to proposed changes to DOT and other laws/regulations that impact the Company in these areas
  • Develop and implement new technologies and industry best practices to improve operations, productivity, and reduce costs
  • Development of gas supply emergency response and restoration procedures and coordination of drills with field operations


Operations: Responsible for the management of the Plant Operations group (Chief Plant Operators, Supervisor, Specialists, & Plant Operating Mechanics). This position oversees the Plant Operations group which is responsible for the operation, maintenance and construction activities associated with the 30 Gate Stations metering and regulating gate stations that supply natural gas into the system and for the 2 gas peaking plants (LNG & Propane/Air) that provide a supplemental gas supply to the system during periods of heavy demand or curtailed/uneconomic supply from the pipelines. This position is responsible for ensuring effective emergency response and restoration to major M&R and Peak Shaving facility failures which impacts system reliability, customer service and satisfaction levels and financial performance.

Planning: This position is responsible to determine the long-term needs of the group and develop the budgets required to meet its obligations. It is responsible to review proposed changes to Federal, State and local regulations in these areas and to develop the corporate response to them. Oversees the development of, and approval of, enhancements to operate and monitor system operations including computer programs such as the LNG plant Distributed Control System (DCS); and the investigation, evaluation and approval of new technologies to increase the performance and security of the gas system.

Contacts: Position represents the company to Federal, State and local public and environmental officials as it pertains to the operation of the gas distribution system. Is the contact person to the Interstate Pipelines and provides direction for future operational needs; coordinate operational activities to ensure system integrity (especially during colder weather), provide information and resolve billing inquires between the Company and the suppliers. Regular interaction with Gas Department Management, regulatory, industry and oversight groups such as State Commissions, AGA, DOT, etc.

Impact of Errors: Ensures that that the peak shaving facilities and all gate stations are operational to meet our customers’ needs and peaking gas supply available for colder temperatures. Works closely with Gas System Control to ensure adequate gas supply for the gas system & customers. Failure to perform in this area would result in significant legal and financial liability to the Corporation. Failure to appropriately plan and execute facility maintenance and upgrades could result in a catastrophic failure of facilities that could result in employee or public injury or death, significant financial liability and damage to company image with the public, regulators and investors.

Responsible for a team including Supervisors, Exempt and Non-Exempt and craft employees.
Financial Scope: Capital: $4.0 M, O&M $3.0M
Replacement value of assets under direction: $200M


  • BS/BA in Engineering, Business Management or related field and a minimum of 8-10 years of related experience or in lieu of Bachelor’s Degree a minimum of 12-14 years LNG experience as a qualified plant operator or Specialist
  • Proven leadership skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of the peak shaving facilities, gas system and gas distribution/delivery business.
  • Knowledge of, and experience with interacting with local, state and federal regulatory agencies governing Plant operations, including environmental regulations as they apply to gas operations.
  • Strong experience in the business planning, budgeting process and financial practices.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • MBA or Master’s Degree in a related field.
