Job Duties: 

Under direction, regularly and customarily performs work on Company-owned or maintained equipment, on and off Company property, as follows: 

1. Installs, tests, calibrates, adjusts, maintains, repairs, places in proper operating condition, and performs other related work in connection with the operation of: communication equipment and related equipment owned or maintained by the Company. 

2. Performs all radio work and maintains all test records in accordance with the Rules and Regulations of the Federal Communications Commission. 

3. Locates, by means of appropriate test equipment, sources of radio and television interference 

4. Directs the work of and instructs others assigned to assist him. 

5. May be required to perform other related or less skilled work. 

6. Receives and clears permits from the System Operator when issuance of such permits is necessary. 

7. Must become thoroughly familiar with the Company’s electrical switching, tagging rules and grounding procedures. 

8. Must pass NERC background check. 

9. Must be willing and able to work extra and/or irregular hours and be willing to work under unusual or special conditions. Must be willing and able to work overtime on a regular basis and must be available for callout overtime. 

10. Must possess the appropriate vehicle operator’s license. 

11. Performs all switching related to their work. 

12. Makes wiring modifications to equipment installed by other departments. 

13. Operates automobile, van or light truck. 

14. Performs all work in accordance with Company guidelines 

15. Performs necessary job-related clerical work. 

16. Must maintain a valid FCC General Radio-Telephone License, or successfully completed the National Association of Business and Educational Radio (NABER) Technician Certification Examination, or ISCET (International Society of Certified Electronic Technicians Certification). 

17. Reads, writes and communicates effectively in the English language.

Qualifications 
1. Physical – Average eyesight and hearing. Must not be color blind. Ability to distinguish different color-coded wires. 


2. . Education Requirements – A high school diploma (or equivalent), plus an Associates (at least 2 year) degree in Telecommunications or Telecommunications Technology (or equivalent). This degree and/or equivalent should include, but not limited to the following: communication systems and equipment; network systems and equipment; electrical circuits and computer concepts.

A high school diploma (or equivalent), plus an Associates (at least 2 year) degree in Telecommunications or Telecommunications Technology (or equivalent). This degree and/or equivalent should include, but not limited to the following: communication systems and equipment; network systems and equipment; electrical circuits and computer concepts.


-Experience demonstrating skill installing, testing, adjusting, maintaining, troubleshooting, and/or repairing communication equipment down to the component level (e.g., trunked radio, conventional radio, transmitters, receivers, System Control Center Instrumentation, multiple address system, fiber optics). 


-Experience demonstrating skill performing complex testing, analysis and troubleshooting of equipment using analog and digital test equipment.


-Experience demonstrating skill interpreting complex construction and manufacturers' drawings and manuals (for example, electrical/electronic wiring and schematic diagrams).


-Experience demonstrating skill preparing wiring and communication diagrams. 


-Experience demonstrating skill performing calculations relative to the operation of communication equipment and other electronic devices.


-Experience demonstrating skill performing basic math (such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).


-Experience demonstrating skill operating automotive equipment such as automobiles, vans, or light trucks.


-Experience demonstrating skill performing administrative/paperwork tasks and documenting details of field conditions, maintenance, and repairs of equipment.


-Ability and willingness to travel to various company and off-site locations.


-Ability and willingness to work non-standard and extended hours, rotating shifts, overtime, weekends, holidays and during system emergencies as required.


-Ability and willingness to wear and use safety equipment as required by Federal, State, Local and Company regulations.


-Ability and willingness to perform both indoor and outdoor tasks for extended periods of time (for example, lifting up to 50 pounds, climbing ladders and scaffolding, bending, twisting, kneeling, crawling, pulling/pushing, standing, walking, and squatting).


-Ability and willingness to perform rescue and first aid activities including resuscitation.


-Ability and willingness to work in a variety of work environments, all weather conditions, at extreme heights, in dark or limited light areas, and in noisy and dirty environments with proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).


-Ability and willingness to work around energized electrical substation equipment.


-Ability and willingness to participate in computer based refresher/compliance training.


-Ability and willingness to distinguish between color-coded wires and components.


-Ability and willingness to drive and work out of the Company Communications vehicle. 


-Ability and willingness to perform a second role in accordance with Pepco Holdings Emergency Preparedness Guidelines for all employees.


-Must pass qualification test.


-Must possess FCC General Radio Telephone Operator License, OR have successfully completed the National Association of Business and Educational Radio (NABER) Technician Certification Program, OR have International Society of Certified Electronic Technicians (ISCET) certification. 


-Must possess a valid driver's license.


-Must successfully pass a Criminal History Background Check 


-Must successfully pass a drug test.

This position is a NERC Regulated position. As such, a background check will be conducted on incumbent every seven years. Additionally, the incumbent will be required to complete annual NERC compliance training.

Preferred:
-Experience demonstrating skill working with other departments.
-Experience demonstrating skill performing special studies and tests as required.
-Experience demonstrating knowledge of substation entry procedures such as electrical switching, tagging rules, and grounding procedures.

-Experience demonstrating skill directing or instructing others on work practices.

-Experience demonstrating skill locating, testing, and correcting sources of radio and television interference.

-Experience demonstrating skill using PC-based diagramming software and technical application software (for example, to install, program, maintain, and/or troubleshoot equipment).
