The Senior Quantitative Engineer will work in BGE’s Technology and Data Analytics group and will play a crucial role in making BGE operational divisions into a data driven organization. The successful candidate will:


1) Work closely with Manger of Technology and Data Analytics in mapping the strategy and identifying the use cases for the Electric and Gas Grid analytics.

2) Partner tightly with Data Scientist to accurately develop the models, test them, and deploy them to internal customers. 

3) Will not only be technically proficient but also needs to understand and be part of the business development and support activities. 

4) Actively challenge current popular values opinions and business processes to substantially benefit the customer experience and execute organizational strategies

5) Be a leader in building a culture of continuous learning by partnering with Exelon Utilities Analytics, staying on top of current trends and sharing learnings with other employees throughout the organization


The Senior Quantitative Engineer will develop and maintain quantitative analytical models and methodologies to identify trends and predict outcomes, effectively communicate and report on modeling methodologies and results. 


The Senior Quantitative Engineer will employ quantitative methodologies and provide quantitative analysis to support engineering studies, plans, calculations, evaluations, design documents, integrated systems analysis, cost estimates, budgets, associated with the research, planning, design, operation, and maintenance of Exelon Utilities’ overall strategic plans and initiatives. 


The person will be responsible of monitoring and responding to business needs by staying abreast of developments in the energy industry and provide analysis/reports to meet those needs.

Position may be required to work extended hours, including 24 x 7 coverage during storms or other energy delivery emergencies.


- Performs assignments in specialized areas (such as Gas, Electric Operations and Planning, Project Management, etc.) requiring extensive quantitative analysis, research and engineering expertise.

- Leverage in-depth technical knowledge of predictive analytics, statistics, modelling techniques and simulation approaches to develop valuation, risk management, and pricing models.

- Conduct research and produce proof-of-concept demonstration systems to test new quantitative modeling approaches and solutions to complex problems.

- Translate quantitative and business concepts into efficient, robust, supportable system design and architecture

- Provide leadership, training, and mentorship to less experienced technical analysts on the team and in the organization.

- Partner with IT to develop complex data structures and a business intelligence platform for reporting end user data mining.

- Partner with stakeholder analytics teams across BGE and the Enterprise to expand the use and gather feedback on the models and systems

- Performs tasks associated with critical or analytical engineering projects, develop and maintain quantitative analytical models and methodologies to identify trends and predict outcomes, provide explanations of the modeling and its results to management and senior leaders.

- Evaluates, develops, implements and supports strategic and engineering projects that have significant financial and operational impact by applying quantitative analysis.

- Participates in department planning, provide budget recommendations and monitor performance for the accomplishment of committed results.
- Performs assignments while acting independently and may lead multi-discipline teams.

- Serves as an expert in the quantitative engineering area.

- Provides recommendations and implements action plans to improve performance and cost effectiveness.

- Participates in technical and industry societies and committees to enhance knowledge of new technologies or issues in areas of company interest.



- Ideal candidate will have experience performing advanced quantitative analysis and developing and/or validating risk models to support senior managers in running their quantitative strategies. 

- Strong teamwork, interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with all management levels. 

- Strong written and oral communication skills. 

- Demonstrated industry participation Demonstrated experience in complex multi-year research and analysis efforts 

- Demonstrated experience to expand R&D background to practical solutions (in quantitative/engineering discipline) 

- Professional Engineer’s License (2), advanced technical degree, MBA or Project Management Certification 

(1) Master’s degree in Engineering or other quantitative fields reduces the OJT experience requirement by 1 year; 

(2) License must be issued by the state in which you are practicing.  

(3) PE License reduces the OJT experience requirement by 1 year. 

(4) Career related experiences is defined as changes in technical job responsibilities and does not have to include a change in department 




- Bachelor of Science degree in engineering Ability/experience analyzing and interpreting complex electrical and mechanical systems, and providing quantitative engineering analysis 

- Thorough understanding of applied and financial mathematics concepts and techniques (including advanced statistical techniques) 

- Experience articulating business questions and using mathematical techniques to arrive at an answer using available data. Experience translating analysis results into business recommendations. 

- Draw on knowledge of programming in MATLAB, Python, R, C++, SQL, VBA skills to develop and maintain the models that guide the company’s engineering activities. 

- Minimum of two related career experiences (4) in quantitative and engineering discipline (i.e., changes in technical job responsibilities, which may or may not include a change in department) OR  Member of a recognized industry committee 

- Graduate degree (1) or Graduate level work in quantitative discipline (e.g., electrical engineering, industrial engineering, statistics, operations research, economics, computer science, data analytics, mathematics, physics, etc.). 

- Knowledge and ability to apply problem solving approaches and engineering theory. 

- Knowledge of engineering designs, principles and practices. 

- Eight or more years of professional engineering or quantitative analyst experience (1) (3) (See Note). 

- Thorough knowledge and experience in unique areas of engineering expertise. 

- Detailed knowledge of applicable standards, codes methods, and practices unique to areas of expertise. 

- Ability to apply advanced engineering principles to identify and resolve complex issues. 

- Technical applications of complex subjects 

- Develops and executes complex technical proposals  


- Work under minimal supervision, relying on knowledge, skills and judgment acquired through education and relevant experience to plan and accomplish assigned tasks and goals
- Influences project decisions having a significant impact on the company.
- Applies technical knowledge to help promote a safe work environment and to enhance customer satisfaction

Note: Items (1) and (3) are mutually inclusive, whereby the maximum experience requirement reduction is one(1) year (e.g., in the case of an employee with both a master’s degree in Engineering AND a PE license, the minimum experience requirement would be reduced by one (1) year).
