Job Summary:

Under general supervision, the Technical Training Instructor is responsible for the design, development, delivery and evaluation of technical training programs.  This position will work closely with Managers and General Managers to ensure alignment on performance, expectations, initiatives and priorities.

 

Reports To:         Director, Training & Customer Experience

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Designs and conducts training classes and prepares related course materials including lesson plans and hands-on learning activities.
  2. Maintains knowledge of field operations, Company policies and procedures, equipment, components, and skills and techniques necessary to conduct effective, high quality training.
  3. Models and reinforces safe work practices and the principles of a strong safety culture in all training. 
  4. Provides functional supervision of students in the training environment. 
  5. Maintains records to document training program activities.
  6. Coordinates and evaluates task performance evaluations.
  7. Recommends improvements in procedures, policies, standards, processes, methods and equipment and assists in developing training and non-training solutions to current issues and trends.
  8. Provides accurate, timely and constructive performance feedback in order to help others improve and succeed.  Seeks opportunities to provide appropriate recognition.  Conducts coaching in a positive and productive manner.  Submits evaluations on the performance and capabilities of students to supervision.
  9. May serve on committees/teams as required (Training Advisory Boards, Safety Committees).
  10. Provides workgroup input into the department budget.
Qualifications
Job Specifications:

Knowledge: Knowledgeable in the following:

  1. HVAC Service OR HVAC Install OR Appliance Service; generally seen as a subject matter expert.
  2. Basic to intermediate level of computer literacy and application in Microsoft Word, Outlook E-mail and PowerPoint.
Skills/Abilities:
  • Solid written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and perform work activities and manage competing priorities within specified time constraints.
  • Excellent customer service.
  • Ability to influence and motivate others and clearly state expectations and desired outcomes. 
  • Ability to translate technology concepts into clear and concise delivery forms for technical and non-technical personnel.
  • A self-starter able to work both independently with minimal supervision and in a team environment.
Education/Experience:
  • Candidate must hold an HVAC Journeyman’s license, EPA Certification, Gas Fitter’s license and have a minimum of 5 years experience in servicing and/or installing HVAC equipment including high efficiency furnaces, electric heat, heat pumps, humidifiers, air cleaners and other related accessories OR have a EPA Certification or Gas Fitter’s license and a minimum of 5 years experience in servicing appliances.
