PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION

Exelon is a Fortune 100 energy company, the Nation’s largest generator of zero-carbon electricity, and a recognized leader on sustainability with a robust commitment to workplace safety. The Company is seeking a highly experienced occupational safety and health attorney to advise and represent the Company in this area. The attorney must possess the ability to work under minimal supervision on matters of significant importance to the Company, to represent the Company externally, and to provide expert counsel to Company management at all levels.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES 
 
1. Performs as a specialist in occupational safety and health law and regulations and related policy issues, providing technical and expert legal services to Exelon Business Units. 

Under minimal supervision, plans, conducts and supervises large and highly complex legal assignments, requiring an ability to evaluate matters that may have a major bearing on the Company’s business; evaluates both legal and business risks and advises clients accordingly.

Represents Exelon in federal and state agency proceedings, in relevant litigation, and other relevant matters. Manages outside counsel retained to work on significant legal matters and litigation.

Provides legal counsel to all levels of management, including senior management.

2. Prepares, and revises as necessary, budgets and early matter assessments for outside counsel

3. Other projects / duties as assigned
POSITION SPECIFICATIONS 
Minimum:

-An LLB or JD from an accredited law school and be licensed to practice law in the relevant jurisdictions
-At least 5-8 years of professional experience in health and safety law.
-Possesses and applies a comprehensive knowledge of occupational safety and health law and regulations and related policy issues to complex assignments.
-Superior legal research and analytical abilities and oral and written communication skills.
-Demonstrated ability to perform calmly under exigent circumstances.
Preferred:

-Experience as in-house counsel or working with in-house counsel
-Experience representing clients before OSHA on health and safety matters
-Experience with occupational safety and health regulations and issues affecting the electric power sector
-Experience with occupational safety and health management systems and compliance audits
-Experience with industrial hygiene programs and regulations.

Qualifications

-  Manages safety incidents and matters independently and with outside counsel, where needed 
-  Provides counsel to Exelon corporate and business unit environment, health, and safety groups
-  Demonstrates superior legal judgment in the business context
-  Demonstrates innovation; generates new ideas and devises original and successful solutions, programs or actions
