Risk Overview

The Risk Management team plays an integral role in Exelon’s decision assessment for strategic, financial, regulatory, reputational and operational activities by identifying and minimizing risk through high quality quantitative and qualitative analysis.  The team is a strategic partner and key enabler in Exelon’s mission to transform into the leading diversified energy company.    

Program Description

The Risk Management Internship Program is a 10-week project-based MBA-level program intended to provide top-talent MBA students exposure to different disciplines and a broad network of leaders within the Exelon Corporation Risk Organization. MBA interns will meet program objectives through hands-on experience, mentorship, and energy industry exposure to ensure a well-rounded knowledge of Risk. 

MBA interns are matched with a project based on their skill set combined with business needs. All projects are developed by our Risk Leadership Team and have significant strategic and/or operating importance to the company.
Below is a listing and brief description of each risk department and location. The candidate will be placed in an MBA Intern Role with the following considerations: business needs, location preference, and mutual interest.

Enterprise Risk Management – Operational and Strategic Risk (Chicago, IL)
Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) is a strategic business partner and key enabler in the transformation of Exelon into the leading diversified energy company through its leadership in framing the relevant and reliable information upon which to base decisions or actions, systematically identifying key risk drivers, applying frameworks, tools, and analyses, which formulate risk management strategies, and executing on response plans, tracking, and monitoring of residual and emerging risks.  This process empowers management and the board to make more informed risk/return decisions to maximize firm value.  A core function of the team is to deliver leading class risk reporting and agenda/content management for senior management and the Board of Directors. Additionally, the ERM team conducts special projects that vary by year which include reviews of many of the largest initiatives, deals, etc. that are ongoing in the organization. 

Credit Risk Management – Enterprise Risk (Baltimore, MD/Chicago, IL)

The Credit Risk team is tasked with protecting Exelon’s balance sheet through best-in-class credit risk mitigating techniques.  This team works to ensure Exelon’s utility and commercial partners meet their contractual obligation from a credit perspective, providing our competitive retail and wholesale businesses with exceptional end-to-end support as well as governance and oversight for utility credit risk.  

Market Risk Management / Risk Analytics – Commercial Risk (Baltimore, MD)
The Market Risk team is tasked with developing and overseeing the risk framework for the commercial operations of Exelon’s competitive business and ensuring that activities remain within the risk appetite set by senior management.  Additional responsibilities include compliance oversight of the commercial business and confirmations and exchange management.  The Risk Analytics team is tasked with supporting Exelon’s competitive retail and wholesale business by evaluating risks inherent in new and existing transactions.  This team is also responsible for the monitoring of forward commodity prices and liquidity as well as innovation and automation throughout the Risk organization. 


Minimum Requirements/Skills

•Pursuing MBA degree with a strong academic background
•Ability to work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment
•Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills

•Eager to contribute in a team-oriented environment
