PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION

Activates & terminates gas and electric service. Gas service work includes meter work (activation, termination, removal, and change out), piping work (including vents and insulation) performed in compliance with Gas Engineering & Construction Standard Work Practices. Electric service work includes meter work (activation, termination, removal, and change out), installs, removes, and change out Surge protectors and ability to disconnect service at service head using loop cutters or ladders as outlined in Company / Section's Safety & Procedures Manual. Operates a lap top computer to update customer / meter information Mobile Dispatch System (oneMDS). Performs other job-related duties as assigned. Field Meter Service Representatives are considered Essential BGE personnel and subject to emergency call in, unscheduled overtime, and Saturday work schedule. May be required to report to various work locations based on workload. Performs other job-related duties as assigned. Trained and certified to perform Gas Emergency response work and to assist during Gas Emergency Outages. Also trained and certified to provide support during electrical storm outages, patrolling, loop restoral, and public safety stand-by. Work can be physically demanding. Individual will work under adverse conditions, required at times to enter vacant / abandoned properties. Also, must be able to function in confrontational situations. Physical stamina necessary to carry and climb a ladder, and perform heavy lifting

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience: Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent Two years of electric, gas or meter related work experience or the equivalent combination of formal education/training and experience.  Satisfactory completion of the Construction and Skilled Trades Test battery. (CAST)


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Skills/Abilities: Possess good communication skills, both written and verbal. Demonstrated ability to work safely and efficiently under pressure and exercise good judgment dealing with the public. Ability to operate a lap top computer via Field Force Management and Mobile Dispatch System. Demonstrated ability to successfully complete the Gas Meter Certification program. Ability to meet Company driving standards, including a valid driver's license. Non-CDL Driving: Maintain a valid driver's license. This position is considered a safety-sensitive function and may be subject to DOT drug and alcohol testing. Demonstrated ability to write, speak, read, comprehend, and communicate clearly and accurately in the English language. Must be willing and able to work overtime on a regular basis and must be available for callout overtime when required, consistent with the Labor Agreement.
