PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION
This job is responsible for managing, organizing, and controlling various engineering, project management, and reliability activities within designated function of accountability. This includes managing and insuring compliance and adherence to accepted standard engineering and design practices for public improvement, system reliability, and system capacity projects across the distribution system while managing and controlling the scope of work, maintaining focus on accuracy, and ensuring constructability at the least cost. This position may be required to work extended hours for coverage during storms or other energy delivery emergencies
The Manager of the newly formed Emerging Grid Technologies (EGT) team will drive the development of use cases and deployment of key emerging grid technologies (DERMS, Battery Energy Storage Systems, Microgrids, etc.). They will develop and execute a comprehensive roadmap for the implementation of emerging grid technologies, collaborate with technology vendors and industry experts and foster partnerships with internal/external stakeholders to ensure seamless integration with existing grid infrastructure and BGE enterprise systems. This is a unique opportunity to lead the change towards a sustainable and resilient energy future and will play a pivotal role in optimizing grid operations, integrating renewable energy sources and enhancing grid reliability.
The ideal candidate will have a good understanding of the electrical distribution system, distribution protection practices, smart grid devices and associated device technologies, proven experience in managing utility operations, preferably with a focus on grid modernization and emerging technologies.
This position work mode is Hybrid and typically requires 2 days on site within Baltimore, MD area with the option to work remotely on the remaining days. This is subject to change based on business needs.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
JOB SCOPE
Manages staff reporting directly or indirectly this position. Accountable for assigned budget as well as staffing, development, compensation, and related human resource needs of assigned employees. Ensures all plans are coordinated with all pertinent areas across the company. Determines the effect of various actions and policies on the reliability, economics and operability of the distribution systems. Coordinate, monitor, and evaluate outside contractors as required. Develop, manage and continuously evaluate outsourcing strategy that optimizes staffing and utilization of internal and external resources. This job has regular interaction with senior management, managers, and government officials to support distribution engineering and reliability practices.
