PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION
Responsible for executing basic material distribution and Stores Department functions, which includes the rigging, transportation, and distribution/physical control of materials and equipment.  Provides outstanding customer service to internal and external customers in the safest manner possible.
 
PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Performs activities relating to the rigging and transportation of materials and equipment and securing cargo for transportation and distribution.
  • Responsible for the operation of material handling and heavy lifting equipment utilized by the Stores Department, which includes tractor trailers, tanker trucks, load handlers, and forklifts.
  • Loads/unloads and handles materials as required and safely places them into various types of storage locations at various heights.
  • Drives vehicles/equipment (i.e., truck, van, forklift, etc.) for transporting materials and supplies to designated locations/sites.
  • Performs basic activities relating to the collection and separation of the Company’s salvageable materials.
  • Performs routine manual assignments in conjunction with assisting higher classified employees while performing their assigned duties.
  • Loads materials onto vehicles and installs strapping, bracing, or padding to prevent shifting or damaging in transit.
  • Responsible for complying with all Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations and all Corporate Commercial Motor Vehicle Policies and Procedures, which includes pre and post trip vehicle inspections and daily driving logs.
  • Performs general housekeeping functions necessary to maintain a safe and orderly work environment (i.e., sweeping, removing older/deteriorated stock, picking up banding, junk pallets, trash, cardboard, etc.).
  • Participates in physical inventories and cycle counting activities as required.
  • Maintains accurate recordkeeping of the inventory.  Completes material transactions using paper as well as computerized systems (PC’s and handheld devices).
  • Maintains and completes Stores related files, documents, requisitions, forms, records, and reports as required or directed.  Verifies the accuracy of work for all necessary and required paperwork.
  • Performs basic Stores Department functions, which includes the receiving, shipping, issuing, crediting, transferring, handling, storage, and maintenance of the inventory.
  • Performs the duties of lower classified employees when needed.
  • Inspects work area(s) and equipment.  Performs the necessary safety checks prior to starting work assignments.
  • Assists other Company personnel and contractors as required.
  • Uses hand tools to erect, install, and/or fabricate shelving, bins, cabinets, or similar items in the Stores area(s)
  • Responsible for Environmental and SOX compliance.
Qualifications - External
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must meet or successfully pass all Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) driver qualification requirements (i.e., medical evaluation, written and road tests, employment history, etc.).
  • Possess and maintain all of the appropriate licenses, certifications, and endorsements required for this classification (i.e., Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), Controlled Hazardous Substance (CHS) Certification, medical examiner’s certificate, Radio Operator’s Permit, etc.).  This includes obtaining and maintaining certification for controlled hazardous substance transportation.
  • Ability and willingness to effectively operate all types of material handling and heavy lifting equipment utilized by the Stores Department (i.e., tractor-trailers, tanker trucks, load handlers, etc.); in compliance with OSHA Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations and Corporate Commercial Motor Vehicle Policies and Procedures.
  • Possess a working knowledge of material distribution operations and procedures.
  • Possess a working knowledge of all Federal, State, and local Commercial Motor Vehicle laws and regulations, including pre and post trip inspections and daily driving logs.
  • Possess a working knowledge of U.S. Department of Transportation hazardous material regulations, including vehicle placarding.
  • Must possess High School Diploma or equivalency.
  • Ability to write, speak, read, comprehend and communicate clearly and accurately in the English language.
  • Ability to communicate and comprehend/follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Must successfully pass required qualification tests.
  • Must successfully pass a Criminal History Records Check.
  • Possess a valid jurisdictional driver’s license.
  • Ability to use measuring and hand tools.
  • Possess knowledge of math and conversion functions.  Perform mathematical problems using decimals and common formulas.
  • Able and willing to perform the following:
  1. Ability and willingness to perform physically challenging tasks for extended periods of time (for example, lifting up to 50 pounds, bending, twisting, kneeling, pulling/pushing, standing, walking, and squatting).
  2. Ability and willingness to climb ladders or stairs to pull/put material in/out of storage locations.
  3. Ability and willingness to wear and use safety equipment as required by Federal, State, local and company regulations (for example, safety glasses, steel toed shoes, hard hat, work gloves, etc.).
  4. Ability and willingness to follow all applicable company safety regulations.
  5. Ability and willingness to work in a variety of work environments including outdoors in all weather conditions and in noisy and dirty environments, with proper personal protective equipment (PPE).
  6. Ability and willingness to travel to various Company facilities and vendor locations as required.
  7. Ability and willingness to work at various Company locations as required.
  8. Ability and willingness to work non-standard hours, shift work and/or overtime as required consistent with the labor agreement.
  9. Ability and willingness to successfully pass required random U.S. Department of Transportation drug tests.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of tools, equipment, and materials used in an electric utility environment.
  • Experience demonstrating skill operating load handlers and forklifts.
  • Experience demonstrating skill working within a warehouse environment.
  • Experience demonstrating skill completing paperwork requirements and setting up and maintaining a filing system.
  • Experience demonstrating skill providing customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Experience demonstrating skill using inventory software.
  • Experience demonstrating skill using computer applications (email, internet, Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Experience demonstrating skill using bar codes/RFID systems.
