PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION

Responsible for the governance and oversight of Exelon Innovation and New Technology which includes Innovation Culture, Coordination of the Research and Development and Technology Partnerships and Portfolio, and Technology Intelligence & Strategy. Creates and maintains strategic relationships with key technology vendors, universities, start-ups, and venture capitalists to support Exelon’s research and development program. Within Exelon, interfaces regularly with senior leadership (CEOs, COOs, VPs, Key Management) across the enterprise to develop and execute a technology strategy that aligns with the company’s vision and goals. Leads the Corporate Innovation function across all of Exelon. Responsible for culture of innovation, champions and designs programs and activities to measure and improve the culture of innovation across Exelon. Ensures that Innovation activities and programs are being communicated to our external stake holders. Partners with business clients and other stake holders in the development of an innovation investment strategies. Leads the cross-company Research and Development Peer Group including the development and oversight of the collaborative research and development portfolio. Recommends research and development funding level and budget at each utility operating company based on technology gap assessments and business plan needs. Acts as Exelon’s chief technology director and interface with third parties such as the U.S. Department of Energy, U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Electric Power Research Institute, National Electric Energy, Testing, Research and Application Center and other key collaborative vendor partners. Influences the direction of industry-wide collaborative research funding and project scope to maximize benefits to Exelon. Leads technology standardization efforts with the Utility Operating Companies, including technology standardization associated with supply sourcing efforts. Identifies disruptive technologies that could have significant impact on the business and works to develop strategies and evaluate / demonstrate technologies.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Serve as the Exelon Utility Operating Company’s chief technology director and interface with third parties including the U.S. Department of Energy, U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Electric Power Research Institute, National Electric Energy, Testing, Research and Application Center and key collaborative vendor partners to influence the direction of industry-wide collaborative research funding and project scope to maximize benefits to Exelon.            
• Responsible for the governance and oversight of the Exelon’s Innovation & New Technology Core Function which include Innovation Culture, Research and Development and Technology Partnerships and Portfolio, and Technology Intelligence and Strategy, and associated critical performance elements. Oversees the cross-company Research and Development Peer Group including the development and oversight of the collaborative research and development portfolio and recommends utility operating company funding level for the portfolio.
• Interface with senior leadership across the enterprise to develop and execute technology strategy that aligns with the company’s vision and goals. This includes regular interaction with utility CEO’s, COO’s, VP’s and Key Managers and BSC leadership including VP’s and Key Managers from BSC Supply, IT, Legal, Security, Corporate Strategy and Corporate Development.
• Lead corporate innovation function including oversight of Innovation Peer Group, improving the culture of innovation. Develop early stage technology solutions that can transform business operations, and partner with business clients and other stakeholders in development of an innovation strategy.             
• Lead special initiatives sponsored by senior Exelon leadership associated with key collaborative research, technology development, demonstration or equipment standardization. Support ongoing or new utility integration efforts in the area of equipment standardization and technology management associated with merger integration opportunities.
• Identification of disruptive technologies that could have significant impact on the business and working with the Exelon Utility Operating companies to develop strategies and evaluate and demonstrate technologies through collaborative or independent research efforts that can exploit the use of or reduce the risk from new technology developments.            

JOB SCOPE

• To provide leadership, strategy development, guidance and technical expertise across the enterprise in the area of innovation and technology in support of utility operating company goals and objectives. Interface with all levels of utility management and position Exelon’s Operating Companies as an industry leader in technology development and implementation. Champion Innovation and manage program for sustainable innovation culture. Provide technology intelligence including identifying disruptive technologies that can have significant impact on the business.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in technical discipline (e.g., Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or related field).
• At least 12 years of progressively responsible industry experience in the area of engineering or technology management.
• Experience with and deep knowledge of business processes and emerging technology
• Demonstrated ability in strategy planning, business acumen, customer engagement and ability to create value
• Proven leadership ability in a high performance culture, including coaching and facilitating business competency.
• Demonstrated ability to build consensus, establish trust, communicate effectively and foster culture change.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and implement process enhancements and efficiencies including technology and performance.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Graduate degree or Graduate Level work in Engineering, Business Administration or related field.
