PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION

Provides leadership, direction and professional development to a staff of engineers and technical support personnel in the planning, developing, organizing, coordinating and executing of a variety of engineering project/activities in the area of facility connections, relocations and reliability replacements or upgrades. Position may be required to work extended hours, including 24 x 7 coverage during storms or other energy delivery emergencies.


PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Performs liaison with other departments, internal/ external customers, consultants, governmental, utility, industry agencies and contractors to establish or review overall plans, designs and objectives, for example, representing the Company on industry/external working groups. (30%)
  • Performs leadership duties of a first-line supervisor to make optimum utilization of employees, equipment, and material to include: coordination of work between organizational segments and communication of company policies and practices. (30%)
  • Recommends improvements and modifications in organization, complement, procedures, policies, standards, specifications, methods, processes, and equipment within area of supervision. (10%)
  • Conducts and completes fair and accurate Performance Appraisals at regularly scheduled times to identify subordinate strengths and weaknesses and to discuss career goals. Provides accurate, timely and constructive performance feedback in order to help others improve and succeed. (10%)
  • Prepares and monitors budget or provides budget information. (10%)
  • Controls quality, quantity and promptness of work performed as measured against accepted standards. (10%)

JOB SCOPE

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Civil, Chemical or Industrial Engineering (for Gas Operations)
  • 5 to 8 years of relevant experience
  • Knowledge of Gas Distribution, Transmission, or Regulator Station operating procedures & practices (gas operations). Experience demonstrating skill performing transmission and/or distribution engineering functions (for example, power flows, voltage drops, short circuit calculations, relay settings). (electric operations)
  • Experience demonstrating skill reviewing and/or coordinating the Operations Engineering reliability assessment of distribution and/or transmission outage requests, if applicable.
  • Experience demonstrating skill building relationships with individuals internal and external to the organization.
  • Experience demonstrating skill using PC-based word processing, spreadsheet and e-mail software.
  • Ability and willingness to wear and use safety equipment as required by Federal, State, Local and Company regulations.
  • Ability and willingness to work extended hours, on-call rotation and during emergency situations as required.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to and work at various locations and work sites.
  • Successfully pass the First Line Supervisory Assessment.
  • Successfully pass a Criminal History Records Check.
  • Possess a valid driver's license.
  • Comply fully with the Federal Department of Transportation Gas Pipeline Regulations.
  • Qualifications under this position of the job requirements include substance abuse testing (e.g. Gas Operations)


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree in Engineering.
  • Experience demonstrating skill providing leadership, direction, professional development and expertise to a staff of engineers and technical support personnel.
  • Experience demonstrating skill serving as a representative in industry/external working groups and/or coordination teams (for example, provides expert testimony, participates in committees).
  • Experience demonstrating skill overseeing and/or providing real-time Operating recommendations to system operators.
  • Experience demonstrating skill developing and/or updating methods and procedures.
  • Experience demonstrating skill using PC-based database and/or presentation software.
  • Experience with engineering design data and standards, preparing cost and quantity estimates and sketches including but not limited to work management systems (e.g, WMIS), information or design software (e.g, Microstation, ESRI) or spreadsheets (e.g, Excel), or Scheduling software (e.g, Microsoft Project).
  • Project or Construction Management Experiences (for Gas Operations)
  • Knowledge of PJM operating procedures and practices (electric operations)
  • Possess a Professional Engineering (PE) license OR have the ability and willingness to obtain it within one year of entry into the position.
