PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION
T&S Regional Substation Projects is a newly created unit responsible for the execution of engineering and design (D&E) deliverables for system performance (SP) projects. The SP programs improve reliability performance through modifications to existing substation designs and application of new equipment and technology. These programs include power transformers, breakers, system protection and control, grounding, substation monitoring, capacitors, switches, and instrument transformers. The unit provides oversight of D&E personnel representing civil, substation/high voltage (HV), and protection and controls (P&C) disciplines as well as lead responsible engineer (LRE). Other objectives include the following:
• Evaluate all planned and active projects/programs identified at BGE substations.
• Provide recommendation on how to optimize the execution of the technical design and engineering deliverables of all the identified projects at the site, as part of a larger unified project(s), to be completed within a pre-determined schedule.
The section engineer will serve as the team subject matter expert (SME) to provide guidance and direction to both internal staff, external D&E consulting engineers (EOCs and SEOCs), and Owner’s Engineer. The section engineer will be a facilitator/decision maker in resolving complex issues in several technical areas requiring advance knowledge and experience. For new technologies or special projects such as a battery energy storage systems and smart substations, the section engineer may serve as the project lead. Other responsibilities include assisting the team in providing estimates on required resources and costs, operational D&E planning, developing P6 schedules, outage sequencing, and managing technical challenge sessions. The BGE area of operations will be split into 4 regions (NE, NW, SE, & SW). The section engineer will be responsible for substations in either the North or South territory.
Position may be required to work extended hours, including 24 x 7 coverage during storms or other energy delivery emergencies.
