PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION Directs the personnel and activities of the Claims operation, including general liability, insurance, claims management, litigation, claims research, analysis and trending. Assures the development and effective implementation of strategic initiatives. Assures the focus and attainment of business goals and objectives. Develops and maintains an environment that promotes diversity and high productivity. NOTE: Position may be required to work extended hours, including 24x7 coverage in support of storms or other energy delivery emergencies.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES- Oversee the development and implementation of short and long-term strategic initiatives designed to maximize Company's profitability and reduce exposure to liability losses. (20%)
- Manage the overall regional Claims operating budget and accrual account. Establish and monitor business plans and division objectives. (20%)
- Develop and maintain an environment that fosters a high performance culture and a learning environment. Leads Claims team in promoting diversity. Serves as a change agent for business initiatives and assures the human element is understood and considered. Assure timely recognition of employee contributions. (15%)
- Provide leadership to and development of the Claims team. Provide accurate and timely feedback regarding performance and operations. (15%)
- Conduct Performance Planning and Appraisal process. Identifies opportunities for growth and learning. (10%)
- Interface with other departments in Company and represent Company regarding liability risk and claims management issues. (10%)
- Facilitates open and honest communication with Claims staff. Assures that upward communication is integrated into the process, including employee grievances and complaints. Develop methods to assess communication effectiveness and implement continuous improvement initiatives. (10%)
JOB SCOPE Day-to-day responsibilities are administrative and functional in nature in the management of the organizational unit. This includes oversight of work assigned to divisional supervisors and their staff. The duties involve both internal and external contacts in the assessment, processing and resolution of claims matters for the Company and ALA partners. Good judgment and communications skills are critical to prevent negative impact on the Company from liability judgments and the publicity that accompanies events of this type. Generally operates with wide latitude for unreviewed actions and decisions.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS- Bachelor's Degree in Insurance, Business or related field.
- At least 10 years of related experience in insurance, claims administration, risk management or Law.
- Three years of supervisory or managerial experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of conflict management and negotiation.
- Proven leadership ability in a high performance culture.
- Proven high-level management skills in coaching and facilitating business competency.
- Proven performance management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to build consensus, establish trust, communicate effectively and foster culture change.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement process enhancements and efficiencies including technology and performance.
