PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION

This position may be required to work extended hours including 24 x 7 coverage for storms or other energy delivery emergencies.


PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Daily activities include acknowledgement of changes and system events on the BGE gas and electric distribution system that causes interruption of service to customers. Disseminate this information in the form of email notifications, alphanumeric paging, and databases. Assembles and disseminates information on interruption and restoration activities on the EU distribution system via OMS/SCADA, CIMS, MWM, PassPort, text paging, databases and the intranet and internet sites. These notifications are made to various agencies to meet regulatory, corporate, and municipal requirements.
  • Provides notification of gas and electric system events; load shed, feeder lockouts, unplanned and extended outage notifications, last contingency, operating incidents, substation equipment problems, dig-in's, weather events, storm updates, injuries to employees/contractors/the public, hazardous spills and other gas and electric distribution related events. Provide updates on status of these events through paging, web site updates, research and communication. Creates and submits Distribution Condition Reports for DSO and other departments.
  • Responsible for completing information requests from internal departments and external agencies concerning system status such as: vicinity of problem, estimated restore time, on-site crews, cause of outage, nature of problem and repairs. Answer inquiries from municipalities regarding fire and police emergencies and estimated times of arrival and estimated times of repair.
  • Compiles, generates and analyzes reports for leadership including Directors, Shift Managers, and Supervisors for gas and electric performance metrics, storm data, weekly ETR values and overall DSO goals.
  • Facilitates weather calls, reports out and hosts daily operations calls (both gas and electric), initiates workload notifications, monitors traffic sites, social media sites, executes companywide callouts using ARCOS, and initiates broadcast messaging to field crews/MDT users.
  • Performs all of the duties of a Utility Dispatcher II, Service Dispatcher, and Customer Dispatcher receiving, analyzing and prioritizing incoming work, including emergency and priority work and well as customer and New Business work promptly routing and dispatching to the appropriate field resource to mitigate and/or correct potential and real emergency situations and to fulfill customer commitments.
  • Can performs the duties of a Sr Dispatcher handling the daily dispatch distribution system operations and providing assistance to the field, Call Center, Dispatchers, Supervisors, Shift Managers and other departments to include but not limited to: monitoring electric emergency response, monitoring gas odor calls/response times; managing new and repeat gas street leaks and subsequent rechecks, Call Center liaison/appeals, field release times, phone triage, remote connect/disconnect workload, investigations, dispatcher schedule adherence, etc.
  • Provide general backup assistance for Utility Dispatchers, Sr Dispatchers, Supervisors, and Shift Managers. Assist with Dispatcher training, computer and application problems including troubleshooting, computer applications, fax machines, copy machines, phones and radios in Dispatch.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Knowledge:
  • General knowledge of the electrical distribution system, associated procedures and safety regulations, BGE electric grid map structure.
  • Computer application skills including MWM, NMS/SCADA, AS8, CC&B, Atlas, ARCOS, UIQ, MS Office preferred.
  • Ability to provide documentation of system events and status through the use of databases and web pages.
  • Skills/Abilities:
  • Ability to analyze issues calmly and provide direction without emotion.
  • Must be able to express ideas clearly and concisely in verbal and written format.
  • Strong organizational and data management skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments simultaneously.

  • Ability to train and motivate new Dispatchers.
  • Subject to US Dept of Transportation required chemical screening.
  • High School diploma and 2+ years in a relevant technical field OR equivalent relevant experience; such as, technical fields including Engineering, Information Technology, Electronics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, etc. Competencies:
