PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION

Works under the guidance of an experienced engineer in the performance of commissioning, testing, planning, designing, operation, and maintenance of Exelon's electric generation, transmission, distribution, data networking, telecommuncation, P&C (Protection & Control) communcation, facilities/systems.  Apply engineering principles to assist with development of commissioning documents such as livening procedures, installation and testing strategies, and equipment outage startegies for the safe and efficient installation of new and replacement primary equipment, SCADA systems, Protective relaying and control schemes, with minimal impact to system reliability.  This can include provididng calculations, evaluations, plans, criteria, specifications, integrated systems analysis, field design documents.  Performs specialized engineering tasks that may involve witnessing of Factory Assistance Tests, troubleshooting systems, commissioning, and maintaining system equipment to industry standards and regulartory compliance.  Provides guidance to other work groups.


PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Perform perventative maintenance (PM) and corrective maintenance (CM) on distribution and transmission relays, communication equipment, power reclosers etc., using the company specific guidelines
  • Conduct basic hands-on acceptance and in-service testing of transmission and distribution equipment (e.g., transformers, circuit breakers, control and relay panels, SCADA, power ling carrier, audio tone, etc.)  Testing is performed per the company guidelines.
  • Assist with the restoration of malfunctioning transmission and distribution equipment, under emergency conditions, by performing the necessary hands-on testing
  • Receive, participate, and provide some on-the-job (OJT) and formal classroom training
  • Complete required paperwork (reports, test data, bluepring corrections, relay settings, etc.) as necessary to document work performed.


JOB SCOPE

  • Conduct CMs, PMs, and project installation testing activities on power equipment
  • Support execution of maintenance and commissioning activities of devices and equipment scheduled or emergent due to system abnormalities of a 24/7 availability in addition to storm response roles.
  • Applies technical expertise & knowledge to help promote a safe work environment, enhance customer satisfaction and support existing or developing business models.

 

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Successful completion of tech test*
  • Associate degree in a technical field (1) or equivalent relevant education / experience (See Section Below) (2) AND 2 - 5 years of relevant technical experience
  • Good knowledge and experience with regulations, guides, standards, codes, methods, and practices necessary to perform assignments for a specific discipline for maintenance, testing, installation or service
  • Positions require the ability to read blueprints and schematics and use basic test instruments
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal communication skills
  • Valid driver's license
  • Requires frequent travel to various company substations or other locations within the service territory
  • Must be available to work shifts and respond to emergency situations (7 days per week / 24 hours per day)
  • *(A Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited university exempts the TECH Test requirement. Note: Engineering Technology degrees do not qualify for an exemption from the tech test)
  • Equivalent Relevant Education / Experience.  Bachelor's degree (technical field) (1) AND zero to 3 years of relevant technical experience.  Non-degreed or non-technical degreeequivalent relevant education (2) AND 5 to 7 years of relevant technical experience (1) Examples of technical fields (non-engineer) include Engineering Technology, Electronics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, etc. (2) Relevant education / experience is knowledge and skills that may be acquired through job experiences or education programs related to those acquired through a formal technical degree program. Examples include experience gained in a military role applicable to electric power distribution, completion of a journey-level electrician program (e.g., overhead / underground electrician, electrical mechanic), or completion of a company-sponsored technical education program (e.g., Elements of Electrical Engineering (E3) series). The equivalent relevant education / experience is in addition to the position's minimum experience requirements.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology
  • Technical experience related to electrical power equipment.
  • Electrical troubleshooting experience preferred
