PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION
BGE: Manage the personnel and activities of a section of the Planning Department. Duties include but are not limited to preparation of area capacity reinforcement plans, completion of comprehensive planning analyses and modeling studies, customer capacity planning strategy and planning support to others including the Distribution Dispatch, Operations, T&S, Pricing, Legal and Regulatory areas. Assure the development and effective implementation of strategic initiatives. Assure the focus and attainment of business goals and objectives. Develop and maintain an environment that promotes diversity and inclusion, and high productivity.
ComEd: Manage the personnel and activities of a section of the Planning Department, including preparation of area capacity reinforcement plans, customer capacity planning strategy and planning support to others including the Distribution Dispatch, Operations, Pricing, Legal and Regulatory areas. Assure the development and effective implementation of strategic initiatives. Assure the focus and attainment of business goals and objectives. Develop and maintain an environment that promotes diversity and inclusion, and high productivity.
PECO: Manage the personnel and activities of a section of the Distribution Engineering Department. Duties include but are not limited to preparation of capacity reinforcement plans for the electrical distribution system in the service territory including Center City Philadelphia, customer capacity planning strategy, project budgeting and approval of long term capacity expansion plans, completion of several tasks of the Summer and Winter Readiness Programs. Provides support to other departments such as OCC ( Operation Control Center), Regional Engineering and Operations, TSO (Transmission System Operation), ESO (Energy Services Organization), Rates and Regulatory, Legal department, Safety and Environmental Services, etc. Assure the development and effective implementation of strategic initiatives. Assure the focus and attainment of business goals and objectives. Develop and maintain an environment that promotes safety, diversity and inclusion, and high productivity.
PHI: Manage the personnel and activities of a section of the Capacity Planning Department. Duties include but are not limited to preparation of short and long term capacity expansion, reinforcement, and reconfiguration plans for the electric distribution system in the ACE and DPL service territories, initiation and shepherding of related capital projects, reliability and budgeting, customer capacity planning strategy, and completion of several tasks of the Summer and Winter Readiness Programs. Provides support to other areas of PHI such as Operation Control Center, Regional Electric & Gas Operations, Transmission & Substation Engineering, Smart Grid & Technology, Real Estate, Investment Strategy, Legal & Regulatory Strategy, Safety & Human Performance, Environmental Health & Safety, External Affairs, etc. Assure the development and effective implementation of strategic initiatives. Prepare expert testimony as required. Represent the company on industry and regulatory working groups as appropriate. Assure the focus and attainment of business goals and objectives. Develop and maintain an environment that promotes safety, diversity and inclusion, and high productivity.
Position may be required to work extended hours, including 24 x 7 coverage during storms or other energy delivery emergencies.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Drives and oversees the development and implementation of short and long term strategic initiatives designed to assure the highest levels of customer services and to achieve Exelon's safety, reliability and performance goals.
- Functionally focused balancing a mix of day-to-day operations and policy with strategic planning. Provides direction on core philosophies to the Company. Makes decisions on key business activities, which have a direct impact on the department or operations, indirect impact on other departments and/or the Company. Miscalculation might have long recovery period.
- Establish and monitor business plans and objectives. Balance cost control with appropriate capital investments.
- Develop and maintain an environment that fosters a high performance culture and a learning organization. Part of the management team in promoting safety and diversity. Serves as a change agent for business initiatives and assures the human element is understood and considered. Assure timely recognition of employee contributions
- Provide leadership to and development of the team. Provide accurate and timely feedback regarding performance and operations. Conduct performance planning and appraisals. Identify opportunities for growth and learning.
- Establish, maintain and improve relationships with other departments in Exelon.
- Facilitates open and honest communication with staff. Assures that upward communication is integrated into the process, including employee concerns and complaints. Develop methods to assess communication effectiveness and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
JOB SCOPE
ComEd
- Manage a workforce of ten to twelve professionals composed of mostly degreed engineers.
- Responsible for initiating capacity expansion and or system reconfiguration projects for approximately 1,500 to 2,000 distribution feeders operated at 4, 13 and 34 kV; and approximately 75 substations supplied at 69, 138, or 230 kV and 200 substations supplied at 13 and 34 kV that serve the customers in northern Illinois or Southeastern Pennsylvania. Each Manager is responsible for recommending distribution capacity addition projects ranging from $25 to $50 million for approval each year. The Planning Managers are accountable for both short term and long term load forecasts for their areas and reconciling this forecast and its impact on the system with Transmission Planning.
- The Planning Managers act as change agents for consolidation and implementation of a common set of processes and procedures to ensure a standard methodology across EED.
- Provide support for voltage analysis, reliability studies, operating issues, storm restoration, and customer response. Provide active support to the operations center(s) during extreme weather conditions or system contingency situations.
- Actions have a significant impact on reliability and customer satisfaction goals and the level of capital expenditures required to meet customer load addition needs.
- Regular contact with senior management, directors and managers in EED Transmission and Distribution Operations and Customer Service areas, External Affairs, Regulatory, Legal and Exelon Energy Delivery.
PECO
- Manage a workforce of ten to twelve professionals composed of mostly degreed engineers.
- Responsible for initiating capacity expansion and or system reconfiguration projects for approximately 2,400 distribution feeders operated at 4, 13 and 34 kV; and approximately 150 substations supplied at 69, 138, or 230 kV and 200 substations supplied at 13 and 34 kV that serve the customers in Southeastern Pennsylvania. The Planning Manager is accountable for both short term and long term load forecasts for planning areas and reconciling this forecast and its impact on the system with Transmission Planning.
- The Planning Manager acts as change agents for consolidation and implementation of a common set of processes and procedures to ensure a standard methodology across EED.
- Provide support for voltage analysis, reliability studies, operating issues, storm restoration, and customer response. Provide active support to the operation center during extreme weather conditions or system contingency situations.
- Actions have a significant impact on reliability and customer satisfaction goals and the level of capital expenditures required to meet customer load addition needs.
- Regular contact with senior management, directors and managers in EED Transmission and Distribution Operations and Customer Service areas, External Affairs, Regulatory, Legal and Exelon Energy Delivery.
PHI
- Manage a workforce of nine to twelve professionals composed of mostly degreed engineers.
- Responsible for initiating capacity expansion, reinforcement, and/or system reconfiguration projects for approximately 800 distribution feeders operated at 4, 12, 25 and 34 kV; and approximately 225 substations supplied at 23, 34, 69, 138, or 230 kV that serve the customers in Delaware, Maryland's Eastern Shore, and southern New Jersey. Accountable for both short term and long term load forecasts for planning areas and reconciling this forecast and its impact on the system with Transmission Planning.
- Acts as a change agent for consolidation and implementation of a common set of processes and procedures in pursuit of a standard methodology across Exelon Utilities.
- Provide support for voltage analysis, reliability studies, Distributed Energy Resource integration, operating issues, storm restoration, and customer response. Provide active support to the operation center during extreme weather conditions or system contingency situations.
- Actions have a significant impact on reliability and customer satisfaction goals and the level of capital expenditures required to meet customer load addition needs.
- Regular contact with senior management, directors and managers across Exelon Utilities System Operations, Regional Electric Operations, Transmission & Substation Engineering, Smart Grid & Technology, Real Estate, Investment Strategy, Legal & Regulatory Strategy, Safety & Human Performance, Environmental Health & Safety, External Affairs, etc..
BGE
- Manage a workforce of six to twelve professionals composed of mostly degreed engineers.
- Responsible for initiating capacity expansion and or system reconfiguration projects for approximately 1,500 distribution feeders operated at 4, 13 and 34 kV; and approximately 200 substations supplied at 34, 115, or 230 kV that serve the customers in central Maryland and/or for completion of comprehensive planning analyses and studies that support the capacity expansion activities
- The Planning Manager is accountable for both short term and long term load forecasts, reconciling this forecast and its impact on the system with Transmission Planning and enhancements to the forecasting/planning processes to include impacts of new technologies and electrification/decarbonization activities.
- The Planning Manager acts as change agents for consolidation and implementation of a common set of processes and procedures to ensure a standard methodology across EED.
- Provide support for voltage analysis, reliability studies, operating issues, storm restoration, and customer response. Provide active support to the operations center(s) during extreme weather conditions or system contingency situations.
- Actions have a significant impact on reliability and customer satisfaction goals and the level of capital expenditures required to meet customer load addition needs.
- Regular contact with senior management, directors and managers in EED Transmission and Distribution Operations and Customer Service areas, External Affairs, Regulatory, Legal and Exelon Energy Delivery.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS- Bachelor degree in Engineering
- At least 8 years of industry experience
- Demonstrated ability to build consensus, establish trust, communicate effectively and foster culture change.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of regulatory issues.
- Proven leadership ability in a high performance culture.
- Demonstrated business acumen, customer awareness and ability to create value.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS- At least three years of experience as supervisor or manager
- Graduate degree or Graduate level work in Engineering, Business Administration or related field.
- Licensed Professional Engineer
- Strong teamwork, interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with all management levels.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement process enhancements and efficiencies including technology and performance.
