Under direction, regularly and customarily performs work on Company-owned or maintained equipment, on and off Company property, as follows:

  1. Installs, tests, calibrates, adjusts, maintains, repairs, places in proper operating condition, and performs other related work in connection with the operation of: communication equipment and related equipment; telecommunication systems and networks with related equipment owned or maintained by the Company.
  2. Performs necessary testing and other related work in connection with the installation, operation, and maintenance of supervisory control and telemetry equipment.
  3. Performs all radio work and maintains all test records in accordance with the Rules and Regulations of the Federal Communications Commission.
  4. Locates, by means of appropriate test equipment, sources of radio and television interference
  5. Directs the work of and instructs others assigned to assist him.
  6. May be required to perform other related or less skilled work.
  7. Receives and clears permits from the System Operator when issuance of such permits is necessary.
  8. Must become thoroughly familiar with the Company’s electrical switching, tagging rules and grounding procedures.
  9. Must pass NERC background check.
  10. Must be willing and able to work extra and/or irregular hours and be willing to work under unusual or special conditions.  Must be willing and able to work overtime on a regular basis and must be available for callout overtime.
  11. Must possess the appropriate vehicle operator’s license.
  12. Performs all switching related to their work.
  13. Makes wiring modifications to equipment installed by other departments.
  14. Operates automobile, van or light truck.
  15. Performs all work in accordance with Company guidelines
  16. Performs necessary job-related clerical work.
  17. Must maintain a valid FCC General Radio-Telephone License, or successfully completed the National Association of Business and Educational Radio (NABER) Technician Certification Examination, or ISCET (International Society of Certified Electronic Technicians Certification).
  18. Reads, writes and communicates effectively in the English language.


Employee must be able to pass test prior to Company awarding job and also must pass subsequent step progression tests.  Failure to pass any of the step progression tests will require remaining at the current step with the employee eligible for retesting within the next (6) months.  Failure to pass any of the tests a second time will result in the employee being reassigned as follows:
1.    An employee promoted or transferred into this classification shall be reassigned under Article 4, Section 9 when applicable, or reassigned to any entry level bargaining unit position.
2.    An employee hired into this classification (not promoted or transferred), shall be placed in an existing entry level bargaining unit position vacancy at any location for which the Company deems he is qualified, providing a vacancy exists, unless during a thirty (30) day period that employee is awarded another position through the bidding process.  If after thirty (30) days the employee has not been awarded another position through the bidding process, the Company will offer the employee an entry level bargaining unit position, and if the employee refuses the offer, the employee will be terminated.
Probationary employee testing to be developed and administered during employee’s probationary period.
Employee shall not be permitted to remain in any of the Electronic TechnicianRelay Tester grades if they fail to pass a test a second time.
