PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION
Observes and assists higher classified employees involved in inspecting, testing and analyzing conditions of overhead and underground distribution systems and equipment.
Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS- Ability and willingness to work in a variety of work environments including: all weather conditions, at extreme heights (above 30 feet), in confined spaces or enclosed vessels, in dark areas or areas with limited lighting, and in hot, foul water, mud, dust, noxious fumes, noisy, and dirty environments with proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Ability and willingness to perform both indoor and outdoor tasks for extended periods of time (for example, lifting up to 90 pounds with assistance, climbing ladders, wooden poles, steel towers and scaffolding, bending, twisting, kneeling, crawling, pulling/pushing, standing, walking, and squatting).
- Ability and willingness to operate aerial lifts.
- Ability and willingness to work on or around hazardous equipment/materials (for example, open flames, heavy equipment, etc.), and/or energized electrical equipment.
- Ability and willingness to wear and use safety equipment as required by Federal, State, Local and Company regulations (for example, ear plugs, helmets, di-electric safety shoes, electrically insulated rubber gloves and sleeves, hard hat, fire retardant clothing, fall protection harness).
- Ability and willingness to work rotating shift work, on holidays and weekends, and overtime as required.
- Ability and willingness to travel to various Company locations and job sites.
- Ability and willingness to perform a second role in accordance with Pepco Holdings Emergency Preparedness Guidelines for all employees.
- Must possess a valid driver's license.
- Must possess a Class B Commercial Driver's License and a medical card OR the ability to obtain each within six months of hire date.
- Must successfully pass qualification test.
- Must successfully pass a Criminal History Records Check.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience demonstrating skill performing atmospheric safety testing and opening manholes.
- Experience demonstrating skill utilizing electrical test equipment, hand tools, power tools, hydraulic presses and cutters.
- Experience demonstrating basic knowledge of equipment/materials associated with electric distribution system construction.
- Experience demonstrating skill preparing test equipment for higher classified employees.
- Knowledge of electrical fundamentals as related to construction, maintenance, and/or operation of the transmission and distribution system.
