PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION
The Senior Engineer will work in BGE’s Distribution Automation and Technology group will play a key role in supporting the development and deployment of several key Smart Grid technologies (conservation voltage reduction, distribution automation, automated fault circuit indicators, etc.). The ideal candidate will have a good understanding of the electrical distribution system, distribution protection practices and related device technologies. Experience with protection applications, automatic circuit reclosers, distribution field area networks and Distributed Network Protocol 3 (DNP3) is preferred.
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Perform 13 kV DA coordination analysis
Perform Automatic Restoration Scheme Failure analysis and distribution circuit event analysis
Support DER relate protection studies
Support ad-hoc emergent work that may require DA settings support
Participates in technical and industry societies and committees to enhance knowledge of new technologies or issues in areas of company interest, make recommendations for business decisions regarding strategy for new technologies and/or engineering techniques and tools
Provides detailed technical training, mentorship, peer review, and/or guidance to others.
The successful candidate will:
Research and implement emerging technologies designed to address future challenges facing distribution system (large renewable generation, advance switching demands, fiber optic upgrades)
Actively challenge current popular values opinions and business processes to substantially benefit the customer experience and execute organizational strategies
Be a leader in building a culture of continuous learning by partnering with Exelon Utilities, staying on top of current trends and sharing learnings with other employees throughout the organization

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Graduate degree or Graduate level work in Engineering, Business Administration or Project Management Certification
Licensed Professional Engineer
Strong teamwork, interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with all management levels
Strong written and oral communication skills
A working knowledge of analysis software packages such as CYMDIST, PSS\E, Python, PSCAD, MATLAB, etc.
Ability to analyze industry wide trends and implement enhancements
Domain knowledge of the utility industry (especially the distribution areas) with ability to learn quickly and teach others useful industry standards
Experience or understanding of distribution system protective relays and reclosers.
Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) impacts studies
Experience with or understanding of protection hardware such as reclosere, switches and their related devices (RTUs, data concentrators, radios)
